On August 18, 2025, Rehmatullah Wazir, the principal of New Iqra Public School and president of the Wana Welfare Association, was abducted by armed masked men in Wana, South Waziristan, Pakistan. The abduction occurred while he was on his way to school, with eyewitnesses reporting that the abductors forced him into a vehicle at gunpoint and fled to an undisclosed location. During the incident, the attackers opened fire, injuring two civilians. Days earlier, a pamphlet linked to militants had warned Wazir to shut down the school. The abduction has sparked widespread concern among locals, leading to student and teacher protests, including a sit-in outside Wana Javed Sultan Cantt, demanding his safe release. Authorities are investigating, with tightened security at entry and exit points, but no group has officially claimed responsibility.
