Passenger bus from Rawalpindi to Hunza crashes near Chilas, at least 20 dead
The death toll has reached 20 when a passenger bus from Rawalpindi in Punjab province to Hunza crashed on Friday morning at Yashkul Das, 20 km from Chilas city.
Provincial government spokesman Faizullah Faraq has confirmed to the BBC that 20 passengers died in the accident. He said that the rescue activities at the scene are nearing completion in which army, Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, Rescue 1122 and local police personnel are participating.
He said that the rescue personnel are also getting the help of local people.
Faizullah said that 21 passengers have also been injured in this accident and have been shifted to hospitals in Chilas and other nearby areas.
According to the police spokesperson, the bus accident took place on Friday morning at 5 o'clock on which there was no traffic on the road and there was no mobile signal in the area at that time.
