„This sixteenth edition of Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Litteraria Rossica has as its primary focus the problem of dialogue – monologue – silence.
At the present time the clash of opinions expressed in social networks, information channels, and political discourses has reached an extreme level. Mutually exclusive points of view struggle for monological domination, and for this reason dialogue is abandoned, diminished, or reduced to silence. This is a global phenomenon, taking different forms in different countries. Writers, artists, and theatre and film directors
working in Russian have begun to pay growing attention to the crisis of dialogism which offers ample material for the analysis of the profound human experiences and
ethical issues arising from this situation. It is equally important to explore the ways dialogism, or lack thereof, and silence have manifested themselves in the past.

In this volume there are articles by scholars working in Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, the United States, and Canada. It has been a challenge to edit a journal across two continents and seven time zones amid the crisis of the war in Eastern Europe. The editors wish to thank the permanent editors Ewa Sadzińska and Aleksandra Szymańska for their patience and support, and also the many colleagues whom we have asked for peer evaluations and without whom this volume would not have appeared.”
