The Latin name of the bullfinch sounds like Pyrrhula, and it arose because of the bright color of the representatives of this genus: Pyrrhula means “fiery” in translation. The origin of the Russian version is interpreted in two versions. The first, simple, is that this bird in temperate latitudes begins to appear before the eyes of people with the onset of winter and the first snow. According to the second explanation, the name comes from the Turkic word "snig", which translates as red-breasted. Over time, "snig" was transformed into "bullfinch", and later into the usual "bullfinch".
