🇵🇱🏨 Kraków’s Hotel Forum – historical monument

If you’ve ever walked along the Vistula River near ul. Konopnickiej, you’ve surely noticed the massive concrete structure standing boldly across the river from Wawel Castle — the former Hotel Forum. Once a symbol of modern luxury, now a striking relic of the communist era, the building has just officially been added to the Register of Historic Monuments of the Małopolska region.

Built between 1978 and 1988 on the site of the old Garbarnia stadium, Hotel Forum was designed by architect Janusz Ingarden as a showcase of late modernism and brutalist architecture. With over 270 rooms, a pool, a sauna, tennis courts, restaurants, and even a casino — it represented the height of comfort and ambition in the late PRL (People’s Republic of Poland) period.

However, due to structural issues and flooding from the nearby Vistula River, the hotel closed in 2002, just 14 years after opening. Since then, it has served as a giant advertising wall, an event space, and a home for bars and restaurants.

Now, in October 2025, the Małopolski Conservator of Monuments decided that the Forum will be officially protected as a historical monument. According to the National Heritage Institute, the building is one of the few remaining examples of brutalist design in Poland — “a witness to the changing eras, tastes, and architectural visions.”

Not everyone agrees: the building’s current owners argue that the decision will freeze the site’s future, making redevelopment nearly impossible. Still, for many locals and architects,

🥕🥖 More “Fridges Full of Goodness” in Kraków!
From October 13, new community fridges have appeared across Kraków — offering residents an easy way to share food instead of wasting it.

🍎 How do they work?
You can leave vegetables, fruits, bread, cakes, preserves, or home-cooked meals (in sealed containers). If you bring your own homemade food, include a short note with the ingredients and preparation date. ❌ Please don’t leave raw meat, foods with raw eggs, spoiled products, or alcohol.

Between October 15–17, 2025, a large-scale joint emergency exercise “Współpraca 2025” will take place across Małopolska. It will involve the army, police, fire department, medical services, hospitals, and local authorities.

Residents might see emergency vehicles or soldiers in various areas — but there’s no reason to worry. These are planned exercises, and everything is under control. Officials emphasize that no gunfire or alarm sounds are expected, though temporary traffic changes or detours may occur.

The purpose of the drills is to test coordination and readiness of regional services in complex and unexpected scenarios.

📱 A message will also appear in the Regional Warning System app:
⚠️ “ATTENTION! Between October 15–17, 2025, a comprehensive defense exercise will take place. STAY CALM AND CAUTIOUS.”

🎥 Ticket inspectors in Kraków will get body cameras!

Starting Monday, October 13, Kraków’s ticket inspectors on buses and trams will begin using body cameras. The new monitoring system, introduced by the Public Transport Authority (ZTP), aims to increase safety and reduce conflicts during ticket checks.

For now, 16 cameras will be used by about 30% of uniformed inspectors, with plans to expand the system so every inspector will have one.

🎯 The recordings will be used only for safety and evidence purposes, in line with data protection regulations.
