📣Today, 1 August: Sirens in Kraków to Honor the 81st Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising

On Thursday, 1 August at 5:00 PM, sirens will sound across Kraków for one minute to commemorate the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising. This symbolic gesture is also part of a nationwide public alert system test.

🕯️ Kraków Commemoration Program:
5:00 PM – Minute of silence on the Main Square (in front of St. Mary's Basilica)
5:02 PM – Holy Mass for the Homeland (St. Mary's Basilica)
6:30 PM – Official ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Plac Jana Matejki), with participation from the Polish Armed Forces

🚴‍♀️ Kraków Launches New Bike Navigation System 🚴

Starting in August, Kraków will introduce a new city information system for cyclists, featuring numbered and color-coded bike routes, detour signs, and directional markers.

🗺 The pilot phase will cover the area from Wawel, through Matecznego roundabout, to the Bieżanów and Rżąka districts.

🎯 The goal? To make everyday cycling easier—especially for less experienced riders.

🔧 Eventually, the system will expand citywide, covering 19 bike routes with signage showing directions, distances, and key public facilities. Expect to see:
Vertical markers
Ground markings
Warning signs

🚲 Some of the new routes will align with EuroVelo and the Vistula Cycling Trail (Wiślana Trasa Rowerowa).

📣 Experts say that while expanding cycling infrastructure is key, this new system also has practical and promotional value—helping attract more cyclists and making rides more comfortable for all.

🏊‍♂️🚴‍♀️🏃 IRONMAN 70.3 Comes to Kraków for the First Time – Expect Traffic Disruptions

On August 2–3, 2025, Kraków will host the prestigious IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon for the very first time. The event will attract top athletes and crowds of spectators, but it will also bring temporary road closures and traffic disruptions.

💥 Highlights:

🗓 Saturday, August 2
👉 9:00 AM – Start of the Good Morning Run Kraków (5 km) on the Main Market Square.
⛔ Traffic disruptions from 8:00–10:00 AM near: Main Square (Rynek Główny), Grodzka, Podzamcze, Bulwar Czerwieński & Inflancki, Bernardyńska, Adam Studziński Square

👉 12:00 PM – The youngest athletes take over the Main Square for the Pho3nix IRONKIDS Kraków race (100–1500 m).
🏃‍♂️ Kids will race around streets: Św. Anny, Bracka, and Grodzka.

🗓 Sunday, August 3 – IRONMAN 70.3 Kraków – Main Event

🏊‍♂️ Swimming (1.9 km) – Starts at Zakrzówek Lagoon
🚴‍♂️ Cycling (90 km) – Along national road 94 to Wieliczka and Bochnia and back
🏃‍♀️ Running (21.1 km half-marathon) – Starts at Plac na Groblach, goes along Vistula Boulevards, Grodzka Street, and finishes on the Main Square

🚧 Major tram track reconstruction in central Kraków begins Saturday, August 2 – expect significant changes for both drivers and passengers.

📍 Location: ul. Straszewskiego and Piłsudskiego

🔧 Project timeline & stages:
➡️ Stage 1 (approx. 3 months):
– Closure of part of ul. Piłsudskiego (from “UJ / AST” stop to Straszewskiego)
– Straszewskiego accessible only to public transport
➡️ Stage 2 (approx. 6 months):
– Full closure of Straszewskiego – no access for trams or buses

🧭 Local businesses were consulted on traffic and delivery planning.
🚗 Special parking zones will be created.
🚶 Sidewalks will be partially narrowed.
ℹ️ Residents can stay informed via interactive screens, a hotline, and an info point.

UPDATE: Police caught those who did it

🚨 Shocking incident at the "Bronowice" tram stop
🗓 Friday, July 25, 7:30 PM

Pepper spray was released from a passing tram line 4 toward people waiting at the "Bronowice" stop.

👥 Victims:
– Around 18 people
– A dog
All were attending an event organized by the “Drugi Sort” store.

🎥 Video footage shows someone spraying an orange substance directly at a young woman from a tram window.

🗣 Mayor of Krakow, Aleksander Miszalski:
“A scandalous, extremely stupid and irresponsible act. The perpetrator must face the consequences.”

📢 Witness appeal: If you saw anything – please contact the authorities.

📹 Police are now securing CCTV footage from inside the tram.

🚊 Starting Monday, July 28, tram service will be restored in the tunnel under Kraków Main Station, and line 50 will return to its regular route between Górka Narodowa and Borek Fałęcki.

The tunnel had been closed for a month due to maintenance work and the replacement of the outdated fire protection system from 2008. The new system will significantly improve safety and ensure the availability of spare parts for years to come.

Please note:
🚧 Tram lines 5, 17, and 19 remain suspended due to ongoing work on the Grunwaldzki Bridge.
🚧 Work on the line to Mistrzejowice is also still in progress – tram service between Rondo Mogilskie and Wieczysta loop will be suspended until September.

🚨 Kraków police are seeking witnesses of a tragic incident – a fatal beating that occurred on June 2, 2025, in the evening hours at Plac Na Groblach in Kraków (Wawel Parking), near the elevator. The victim was a 34-year-old man.

💪 A remarkable success story from the doctors at the 5th Military Clinical Hospital in Kraków!

Although their shift had officially ended, a team of surgeons returned to the hospital to fight for the arm of a 24-year-old man, which had been torn off by a machine at a workplace in Sucha Beskidzka. The operation – reattaching the arm almost at the shoulder – was one of the most complex procedures in trauma surgery.

The surgery took four hours, required multiple medical teams, and incredible precision.
🩺 “We have a pulse. The fingernails are pink. The arm is alive,” said doctors Paweł Maleta and Mateusz Kaczmarczyk.

The next step is crucial – full nerve regeneration could take up to a year.

This is yet another example of the dedication of Kraków’s surgeons – their decision to return to work literally changed this young man's life. Only about 170 such replantation surgeries are performed in Poland each year.

Doctors stress the need for more replantation centers and better funding. In summer – especially during harvest season – such injuries become more common, and every minute counts. This time, the patient was lucky: close to Kraków, and in the hands of a team that doesn't stick to the schedule when a life is at stake.

✈️ Wizz Air ends direct flights from Poland to Abu Dhabi

Wizz Air is pulling out of its routes to the United Arab Emirates. All connections operated by Wizz Air Abu Dhabi between Poland and Abu Dhabi will be removed from the schedule – the last flights will take place by July 31, 2025.

Why? Low profitability, strong market competition, and high operating costs.
