Our app was supposed to mirror a study published in Science Magazine titled “Durably reducing conspiracy beliefs through dialogues with AI.”

🔍 In the original study, over 2,000 participants shared conspiracy theories they believed in - from JFK to COVID-19. Then, they engaged in a three-round conversation with an AI chatbot trained to respond with personalized, evidence-based counterarguments. The results?

💡 On average, belief in conspiracy theories dropped by 20% - and the effect lasted for at least two months.

The AI didn’t just offer facts — it adapted to each user’s arguments, providing thoughtful, respectful dialogue. Even deeply held beliefs were softened.

💬 At first we set out to create an app where anyone could talk to a chatbot about conspiracy theories — to test it for themselves.
But along the way, we evolved the concept. Today, Webimmunization focuses on something broader: helping users recognize manipulative headlines about everyday events and spot misleading content in the media. 🧠📲

🎤 We had the honor of joining the "Truth, Trust, and Technology. Social Sciences and AI Countering Misinformation" conference at Jagiellonian University! 🧠💬

Our team leader, Michał Pluciński, took the stage to present our project – CYBERAWARE 🕵️‍♂️📲
He explored the key challenges faced during development, unpacked the game mechanics, and demonstrated how headlines can be used to manipulate readers. 📰⚠️

Michał also unpacked the technical foundation of the project, walked through the user journey, and discussed the research potential of CYBERAWARE – from data analysis to control groups for studying susceptibility to manipulation. 📊🔍

🙋‍♂️ The session was wrapped up with a round of intriguing questions from the audience—and Michał was more than happy to dive into them!
