Grammy Award-winning jazz artist Cassandra Wilson died today. She was 70 years old.

Wilson died of natural causes in her home on Wednesday, Sept. 2, the Hinds County Coroner’s Office in Mississippi.

Her death was confirmed by her long-time manager Robert Torre:

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cassandra Wilson, the Grammy Award-winning and legendary jazz artist. Cassandra Wilson transitioned peacefully at home, surrounded by family, close friends, and her manager.”

“Her family and close friends respectfully ask for privacy during this difficult time as they grieve her loss. Further information regarding memorial services and arrangements will be shared at a later time,” he continued.

Wilson was born in Jackson, Miss., on Dec. 4, 1955. She began playing piano when she was just 6 years old and started working as a singer in the 70s, according to her website. She moved to New York City in the ‘80s and became a founding member of the M-Base Collective.

Wilson won Grammy Awards for 1995’s New Moon Daughter and 2008’s Loverly.

Her latest album was Coming Forth by Dayin 2015, made as a tribute to Billie Holiday.

She has also released music with The Roots, Wynton Marsalis and Elvis Costello.

Victor Miller, screenwriter of the original “Friday the 13th” and creator of the legendary slasher Jason Voorhees, has passed away at 86. His death was confirmed by his son Ian in a tribute posted on social media.

Miller wrote the screenplay for the 1980 film directed by Sean S. Cunningham that would go on to spawn multiple sequels. Before the horror film, Miller co-wrote the family comedy Manny’s Orphans (1978) with Steve Miner, which Cunningham also directed. In 1978, worked with Cunningham, writing the sports comedy Here Come the Tigers under the pseudonym Arch McCoy.

The screenwriter would work with Cunningham once again after Friday the 13th on the thriller A Stranger Is Watching (1982). Other film credits include Getting In (1994), Jury Duty (1995), Rock, Paper, Scissors (2017), The Once and Future Smash(2022), and the short film Sweet Revenge (2025), among others.
Miller also wrote for television, becoming an Associate Head Writer on the daytime drama One Life to Live from 1982 to 1984. In 1984, he joined All My Children in the same role and later did the same with Guiding Light, Another World, and General Hospital. He won several Daytime Emmys for his work on All My Children in 1985, 1988, and 1998.

Actor Samuel Monroe Jr. has passed away following months of hospitalization. His death was confirmed today by his mom. He was 52 years old.

In a post shared on Facebook, his mother confirmed his passing:

“I want to thank all of my Facebook family and friends new and old for praying for Samuel Monroe, Jr., my son,” she wrote. “But today God called him home. Please honor my final request to pray for the family, especially his 3 children.” Before his death, his family revealed he was hospitalized following complications from meningitis.

Samuel Monroe Jr made a name for himself throughout the 90s in roles that forever landed him with a negative reputation, which showed just how good and convincing he was at his craft..

Monroe got his first on-screen acting credit in 1993’s Menace II Society, but he also appeared in the classic horror anthology Tales from the Hood, the parody film Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, Set It Off, and The Players Club.

He is survived by his three children. Condolences to his family during this difficult time.

Legendary film and TV actor Tim Curry, best known for his roles in “It”, “Home Alone 2”, and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” — died late Tuesday night.

Curry’s longtime manager, Marcia Hurwitz, confirmed he died peacefully at his Toluca Lake home. A cause was not immediately available, though Curry had suffered from several health issues since having a severe stroke in 2012.

Tim got his start in Hollywood in the late 1960s ... before catching his big break in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

Tim was universally respected in the acting world, receiving 3 Tony nominations and an Emmy nod during his 5 decades in the industry.

Icon and Queen of Country music Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80. Her death was confirmed in a statement released by her nephew.

Parton’s nephew, Brian Seaver, announced the news in a video posted on her Instagram:

“My name is Brian Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, Sister, Sis and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next,” Seaver said in a video.

“This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it til now,” he added.

Seaver added that Dolly “lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by (her late husband) Carl, her parents, and countless others.”

“Rest in peace, Aunt Dolly — Aunt, Granny, Gigi. May God bless Dolly Parton, and may God bless you all. She will always love you,” Seaver said at the end of the lengthy video statement.

Her death comes after Parton suddenly announced in May 2026 that she was canceling a Las Vegas show and said she’d been undergoing treatment for kidney stones for several years.

During her more than 60-year career, Parton sold more than 100 million records and won 11 Grammy Awards, making her one of the best-selling musical performers of all time.

Actor Michael Wright, best known for his role in “The Five Heartbeats” died at the age of 70.

His death was confirmed in a statement posted by his wife:

“It is with profound sadness and an unimaginable heaviness in my heart that I share the passing of my beloved husband, Michael Wright.”

Actress Hayden Panettiere, known for her memorable TV and movie roles, died today. She was 36.

Her rep confirmed in a statement:

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her – and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”
