Damaged embankments, eroded riverbanks, weakened levees, clogged riverbeds, and unrepaired reservoirs-close to 200 different types of flood protection damage in the voivodeships (provinces) of Opolskie, Śląskie, Dolnośląskie, Lubuskie, and Wielkopolskie have yet to be addressed following last year’s disaster. It was only recently that a contractor was selected to carry out repairs from the previous flood in Kałków (Otmuchów Municipality)-niezalezna.pl has found. The levee has broken there again. In another location, works will be delayed due to the bird nesting season.

The German media have found a new object of admiration in Poland, now governed by the December 13 Coalition. It is Waldemar Żurek, the new Minister of Justice in Donald Tusk’s cabinet. For months, Tusk’s Western allies had criticised him for failing to deliver tangible results in combating the patriotic camp in Poland. The criticism peaked following Karol Nawrocki’s victory in the presidential election. Increasingly brazen behaviour from the Germans, not only from the media but also from leading politicians, has revealed their open dissatisfaction with Polish voters’ decisions. “Respecting the law, namely, the ruling of the Constitutional Tribunal, which serves as a supervisory body over the activities of the Sejm and other state authorities, I do not recognise the legal provision that has been questioned by the Tribunal. In 2023, during the modernization of park Akcja “Burza” (Operation Tempest Park) and the Kopiec Powstania Warszawskiego (Warsaw Uprising Mound), the wooden crosses that had been placed there by scouts since 2005 were removed.
