We spent two packed days meeting editors, authors, and publishing professionals from all corners of the industry. Although our day-to-day work revolves around (mostly) academic publishing, it was refreshing to talk about all kinds of books — from scholarly monographs and professional handbooks to the kind of books we don’t work on, but always enjoy finding.

That’s when we had the pleasure of speaking with representatives from university presses like Uniwersytet Śląski w Katowicach, Uniwersytet Łódzki, Uniwersytet im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu, Uniwersytet Jagielloński, Uniwersytet Warszawski, Uniwersytet Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu, and Uniwersytet Śląski w Katowicach.

We introduced the idea behind the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 (𝗨𝗣𝗟), an initiative built to help university presses share their books with the world in a more open, accessible, and sustainable way.

We had the honour of hosting Prof. Vătămănescu at our recent event in Romania, where she led a panel on the ethical challenges editors face. This time, she returns to explore how journals — especially smaller ones — can identify and respond to integrity issues in publishing.

As Editor-in-Chief of 𝘉𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 (Emerald), a professor of management, and a long-time researcher in communication and international business, she combines deep academic expertise with the real-world perspective of someone who works closely with authors, reviewers, and editorial teams every day.
