From Latin America straight to a California road trip! Huge thanks to our brother-in-law for meeting us at LAX with our car full of camp gear so we could head north.

Honestly, I’m so grateful that even with a toddler, camping and road trips are things we never had to give up. Samson is such a good little road tripper and genuinely loves being out in nature! 🏕️🌲

We took things lowkey, slow-paced, and relaxing this time around:
-Camped right by the ocean at El Capitan in Santa Barbara
- Passed by the elephant seals during molting season 🦭
- Set up camp at Hearst San Simeon
- Drove scenic Big Sur, stopping at the waterfalls and iconic bridge
- Finished up at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park cooling off in the prettiest creek 💧

Such a peaceful change of pace and the exact reset we needed. 🚗✨

Antigua in June 2022 remains one of our all-time favorite trips. 🇬🇹✨

We spent our days walking through historic downtown, catching the classic view at the Santa Catalina Arch, and exploring Hobbitenango (the tribute to The Hobbit is incredible, plus the views and photo spots were so much fun). We even tackled the active Pacaya Volcano—hiking up the trail, riding horses, and taking in the landscape.

Then came the real plot twist: right as we were leaving, a massive landslide blocked the road between Antigua and Guatemala City, causing us to miss our flight back! It was a wild way to end the trip, but honestly, we’d rebook those tickets all over again for these memories. 🌋🐴

Lake Atitlán was easily our most anticipated stop back in 2022, and it definitely delivered a trip we will never forget.

Going during the rainy season meant it poured, and losing electricity at our Airbnb for most of the trip was not exactly in the plan. But honestly, it forced us to slow down, drop the strict itinerary, and just be present.

When the sun finally broke through, it was pure magic. We spent those sunny pockets hopping on lanchas to explore neighboring villages, diving into the lake, and soaking in the views and rich local culture.

It was not the smoothest stay, but it gave us a whole new appreciation for the highlands. Definitely holding out for a redo one day. 🌋✨

June 2022

Waking up at the absolute buttcrack of dawn was 100% worth it for this 🌅✨

We stayed right in the middle of the jungle at Tikal, starting our hike in total darkness to scale Temple IV before the sun came up. Watching the mist clear over the canopy to reveal that iconic Star Wars view (Yavin 4 realness!) was unreal. Also expect to hear our heavy breathing throughout the videos from that hike lol.
The rest of the morning was spent exploring the Grand Plaza and Temple of the Great Jaguar, surrounded by wildlife. The ruins were so impressively maintained.

The howler monkeys sound genuinely terrifying, like a dinosaur invasion, until you learn they’re just shouting at each other over territory. Scarier at night for sure, but such an unforgettable experience. Wish we could’ve stayed longer! 🐒🗿🇬🇹

Flores, Guatemala. June 2022

We stayed right in the heart of town and spent the day just wandering all around the colorful streets. Then we hopped in a tuk-tuk to meet up with Fernando, who took us out on his lancha to George’s Rope Swing—and we literally had the entire place to ourselves! 🚤🌴💦

We only had a day and a half here before heading off to Tikal, and I honestly wish we could have stayed so much longer. Flores, we will definitely be back. 🇬🇹❤️

Did you know the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá is built nearly 600 feet underground inside a working salt mine? 🇨🇴

Located just outside of Bogotá, this incredible cathedral features hand-carved tunnels, illuminated salt sculptures, and one of the largest underground crosses in the world. What began as a place of worship for miners has become one of Colombia’s most visited landmarks.

Walking through its chambers was unlike anything we’ve experienced in our travels—a perfect blend of history, engineering, faith, and art.

Would you add this to your Colombia itinerary?

Cartagena, you are a beautiful, high-energy masterpiece. 🇨🇴✨
We’ve been jumping from the history-filled streets of the walled city to the absolute paradise of Isla de Barú. It is definitely a culture shock if you’re not used to it—the beach vendors do not play, and the energy is constant! 😂🏖️
But honestly? It was so much fun. From the turquoise waters to the vibrant streets, Colombia has been unforgettable. 🥂🌊

Before we went to Medellín, so many people tried to scare us with all the warnings.

Obviously we’re always careful wherever we go, and a local even told us to watch out with our fancy camera and not use it, lol, but the people we encountered were actually so incredibly friendly! On top of that, the street food blew us away and we absolutely loved us some arepas con carne.

We also did the iconic Comuna 13 tour, and it was just crazy to hear and see the transformation firsthand. It’s wild to think that a neighborhood that was once considered one of the most dangerous places in the world completely reinvented itself, turning its history into this beautiful, vibrant hub of street art and resilience.

Throwback to 2022 and Our final stop in Costa Rica was Jacó, and it was the perfect “one and done” beach town adventure on the west coast! 🇨🇷✨

We absolutely loved hiking El Miro—those stunning ocean views were unforgettable.

But the journey there was half the adventure! On the way, we braved Ficus la Raíz, a massive natural tree root bridge. Honestly? It was terrifying. 😅 Unless you are 100% confident with heights and super careful, I might suggest enjoying it from the ground!

We also made a quick pit stop at the famous Crocodile Bridge, which was so dope to see up close. 🐊
