Deepika Padukone has been making waves lately with some pointed comments about her decision to walk away from both Spirit and Kalki 2. According to her recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar India, she explained that movies with huge budgets—like ₹500-600 crore blockbusters—don’t excite her anymore. What truly inspires her now, she says, is “empowering other talent”: writers, directors, actors, and producing meaningful stories.

She emphasized that her drive isn’t about fame or more money. “How much more fame? How much more success? How much more money?” she asked, reflecting on her changing priorities. Deepika also called out the film industry’s culture of overwork. She pointed out the double standard: while many male superstars are reportedly working only eight hours a day, the conversation rarely makes headlines.

Her exit from Spirit and the Kalki sequel has sparked criticism online, with some fans accusing her of hypocrisy — questioning why she signed these big films if she wasn’t passionate about them.
