En ¿Quieres hacer el favor de callarte, por favor?, su primer libro de relatos, que escribió y reescribió a lo largo de quince años y que le supuso la consagración inmediata, Raymond Carver renovó la forma del relato breve hasta darle proporciones de haiku y sin que este uso radical de la elipsis le haga perder ninguna fuerza. Todo lo contrario, los relatos de Carver poseen, quizá precisamente por su mismo carácter fragmentario, una inesperada capacidad de provocar una impresión fortísima, una indeleble conmoción.
