UNRWA: Every delay in facilitating the entry of aid means more deaths.
Gaza - Ma'an - Jonathan Fuller, Director of Communications for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), confirmed that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains catastrophic, stressing that the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel is only the first step towards alleviating the worsening suffering.
"The ceasefire is a crucial step, but it is only the beginning of addressing the profound humanitarian crisis facing the people of the Gaza Strip," Fuller said.
The UN official added that there is an urgent need to significantly increase the volume of aid to meet the growing needs of the Palestinians.
He pointed out that every day of delay in facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid means more deaths due to malnutrition and lack of basic necessities.
Fuller emphasized that the priority now is to prevent the worsening of food shortages and the spread of disease, in addition to providing the necessary support to rebuild citizens' lives.
