The practical consequence is a total inequity in the distribution of water resources. Although the Palestinian population is half of the Israeli one, it has only 10-15% of the available resources. Israelis consume an average of 280 liters per day, Palestinians only 70.

Between 25 and 40% of the total water used by Israel comes from the West Bank. Israel consumes 1,82% of the water in the West Bank, while Palestinians use only between 18 and 20%. Israeli settlers living in the West Bank consume about 350 liters per day per capita compared to 70 – although with negative peaks reaching only 20 – for Palestinians (it should be remembered that the WHO recommends using about 100 liters per person for day to maintain proper levels of hydration and hygiene - for a total requirement of 225/250 liters for day per person). Amnesty International estimates that between 180,000 and 200,000 Palestinians living in rural communities do not have access to running water. Even towns and villages connected to the water network often remain without water, especially in the summer and drought months. Water outages are a daily occurrence, with residents receiving water only one day every one to two weeks.

La conseguenza pratica è una totale iniquità nella distribuzione delle risorse idriche. Pur essendo la popolazione palestinese metà di quella israeliana, dispone sono del 10-15% delle risorse disponibili. Gli israeliani consumano in media 280 litri al giorno, i palestinesi solo 70.

Tra il 25 e il 40% dell’acqua totale utilizzata da Israele proviene dalla Cisgiordania. Israele consuma 1’82% dell’acqua della Cisgiordania, mentre i palestinesi ne usano solo tra il 18 e il 20%. I coloni israeliani che vivono in Cisgiordania consumano circa 350 litri al giorno pro capite contro i 70 – anche se con punte negative che arrivano ai soli 20 – dei palestinesi (va ricordato che l’Oms raccomanda un utilizzo di circa i 100 litri per persona al giorno per mantenere i giusti livelli d’idratazione e d’igiene - per un fabbisogno complessivo di 225/250 litri al giorno per persona). Amnesty International stima che circa 180.000-200.000 palestinesi che vivono in comunità rurali non hanno accesso all’acqua corrente. Molto spesso anche città e villaggi collegati alla rete idrica rimangono privi d’acqua, specialmente nei mesi estivi e di maggiore siccità. Il razionamento dell’acqua è all’ordine del giorno, con residenti che ricevono acqua solo un giorno ogni uno o due settimane.
