Participation of community members in the decisions and actions that affect their health means their substantive participation in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health programs.
Community participation in primary health care has particular relevance in emergencies, which community members are often first responders.
Our colleague Walter Flores is co-author of new article that reviews the range of community-driven interventions and strategies implemented in response to shocks in Latin America and the Caribbean. The article identifies 14 types of interventions across three domains - participation of community health workers, community engagement, and mobilization of CSOs - and analyzes factors enable or hinder implementation.
