I love the traditional houses you still find in Ferrel.

Small Portuguese houses, white or colorful walls, simple windows, colourful doors and little details that tell you they have been here for generations.

They are not perfect — and that is exactly what I like about them.

Some are beautifully maintained, some are waiting for renovation, but they all have a character that is difficult to recreate in a new house.

Ferrel has changed a lot over the years, especially with its popularity among surfers and international visitors, but walk through the older streets and you can still find the real village underneath it all.

This is one of the things I love about the Silver Coast — old Portugal and modern life living side by side.

The Rota das Fontes in A-dos-Negros is a beautiful circular walk of around 5 km, taking about 1-1.5 hours.
