OSCARS 2027.
MARIA VITÓRIA by Mário Patrocínio.
Pre-Selected as one of the contenders for representing Portugal at the OSCARS.

BRO CINEMA is very proud and happy to announce that Maria Vitória by Mário Patrocínio has been pre-selected as one of the contenders to represent Portugal at the next edition of the Oscars.
The joy and pride extends to Terra Vil by Luís Campos, a Film which BRO CINEMA co-produced.
Congratulations to all the extraordinary talent involved, and to all those who made these projects happen.
When it comes to creativity, all roads tend to lead to LA (and to LA LA LAND if Ryan Gosling invites us all for lunch at his home).

CURTAIN CALL.
Behind the scenes and behind the sets of João Silva’s KATABASIS.
Where the magic happened (and where an extraordinary Team developed).

The expression BTS has now become ubiquitous in Social Media for Films, DOCS, TV Shows and ADS to showcase how things are done, and who makes them.
The beauty of unveiling what is hidden behind the curtain is that you can see how special effects are produced, how actors prepare, and how the crew members get ready (and who eats all the cakes from Catering).
KATABASIS was a very special project for many different things (script, filming, casting, make-up, wardrobe, you name it), but mainly because of the people who came together to do something which many believed could not be done or produced in Portugal (no one also thought Hollywood would make another MATRIX, but they did).
As João’s Short Film premières in Lisbon during this year’s MOTELX, you will be able to see what went on before he shouted: “Acção!”.
Act 1, Take 1. Stay tuned.

KATABASIS.
Let’s look at a TRAILER (as João Silva finally gets a well deserved break from the editing room).

As any Film finishes up, and cast and crew leave its sets or natural scenery, something else starts: editing.
The process of turning thousands of takes into something which makes sense is as important as the process of recording those same takes.
This process, in the dark, and usually hidden from view, is rarely seen, and is truly underappreciated.
In a way, the people who work behind the scenes are rarely seen (ironic, right?).
A Film’s Trailer follows a similar path, as it needs to condense something which you will see soon, but which is still under wraps.
It is a recap but also a riddle.
It needs to create a craving, to entince and excite, but it also needs to keep the mystery and suspense (who did it, who stole it, who made someone turn into a Hobbit, you know the drill).
KATABASIS is starting its Film Festival circuit, and as it travels around the world, João and his team managed to create something truly special to show you, first hand.
Some call it a trailer, we call it a trailblazer.
Stay tuned for KATABASIS, it will be something to talk about.

SHANGHAI, here we go!
Maria Vitória by Mário Patrocínio at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

BRO CINEMA is very proud and happy to take a film, which has meant so much for our Team, across the Huangpu River for its Chinese Première at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
This pit stop is another chapter in the film’s incredible journey, which funny enough started in the East with its first showings in Tokyo.
This is much more than a simple landmark, as it showcases the incredible talent of all involved.
One for the Team, and one Team for Xiao Long Bao Dumplings.
Films can be food for thought, right?

KATABASIS.
A first look, and sneak peek, into the (extra)ordinary world created by João Silva.
A Short Film which is actually a full-on creative drive.

Very rarely, almost unheard of, will you find visual objects which have their own galaxy of characters, storytelling, soundtrack or special effects.
Very rarely will you also find that same universe in a Short Film made, fully, in Portugal with a joint venture of people, rarely seen, whose incredible talent has the ability to travel around the world.
The world of João Silva, who created KATABASIS from scratch, is much more than something which borders pure fantasy, or the fantastic.
He has created a unique universe, so personal that it becomes universal (and relatable), which is a first in Portuguese Cinema because of the sheer pizzazz he has imprinted on characters that George Lucas would put in Tatooine.
We tend to be “moderate” and cautious in Portugal. Subdued. Muted. Soft.
A “nothing is worth the hype” tale.
How great when someone throws that out of the wind and has the ability to blow your mind.
In a way, we all need more Spocks in our life.
Live long and prosper.
And stay tuned for when this film comes out.

RICARDINHO.
The Magician. The Champ.
The Charmer.
Bola pra frente.

As we tend to focus on what Sport can bring to the table (or the field) in terms of focus and discipline, we should also focus on what it brings in terms of pure joy and fantasy.
The story of one of Portugal’s (and the world’s), leading Sports figures, Ricardinho, is a project very close to the heart of BRO Cinema.
The Film about Ricardinho is not really about endurance and sacrifice, but mostly about the power of sheer creativity, and the genius which goes from mind to playful feet.
Ricardinho is our Fred Astaire. Simple as that.
Unpredictable, unique, singular.
He dances in the futsal court, and does what many choreographers could only imagine to do.
This is a story of a small kid who dreamt big.
This is the story of a small kid who transformed Sport in so many ways that you would have to invent a new body language for it.
This is the story of a small kid who took Futsal to a galaxy far faraway.
If in Portugal we say that “Todos nós temos Amália na voz”, we should also say “Todos nós temos Ricardinho nos pés”.
We leave the Crocs to the Amateurs.

LE BULL.
Or how Francis Wallis took the bull by its horns (and survived to tell the story).

Some campaigns need that extra bit of energy and kick to come alive.
That happens because their imagery, and imagination, needs to match their particular energy and drive.
Le Bull always provides us with a singular and dynamic angle, usually by bringing also someone iconic back to the centre stage, and by using clever humour as a tool.
Now, we tend to roll the eye to “the classics” because they are part of a certain period, and also because they relate to something and someone in the past.
Fat chance here.
We all knew Francis kicked ass.
Now we also know he can kick the ball too (and who knew, he got Cadete in front of the camera once more “

EDP-50 Years
Behind the Scenes.
What some call the BTS of an iconic campaign.

It’s not every year that you reach a landmark.
Nor is it every day that you gather a landslide of talent, to produce something which defines 50 years of a brand which has shaped so many people in so many ways.
This campaign for EDP is a bit more than a celebration for BRO Cinema and all those involved.
It’s a celebration of all those you don’t actually see, and who are behind the camera.
In a way, the extraordinary and singular talent of all those whom we see through a lens is also defined by the talent, now credited, of all those who make it happen. Conceptually and technically. Daily, without breaking character.
From Make-Up to Costume Design, from Image and Sound Editing to Catering, from anyone who puts a socket into a plug to anyone who makes a camera turn to the right angle, this is where talent resides.
A Behind the Scenes should not be only about how something is done.
It should be about all those who show up to make the magic happen.
One right plug into the right socket at a time.
Some call it energy, we call it a creative powerhouse.
Here’s to the next 50, EDP.
