P is for PREMIÈRE.
And also for Pen (we got a lot of film poster signings).
MARIA VITÓRIA by Mário Patrocínio at TIFF-JP.
Konnichiwa Tokyo!
As first looks go, there is always anticipation, curiosity, and the fear that something is missing or got lost along the way.
No heavy or complex preparation can take you to a red carpet without a bit of trepidation.
Premièring a Film is like taking a small child to her/his first day at school: you never know what and whom you’re going to find.
So, to take a film which resonates in so many levels to a particular and singular Portuguese memory to the other side of the globe, is putting yourself in the arena in the most exposed way.
Will it resonate with audiences, will the public understand the subject and subtext?
The obvious and the hidden?
Thank you Tokyo for being the best absolute host for this film and its cast and crew (including actors and our amazing DOP).
Thank you to the many hundreds who came to meet us before and after the film screenings, and who filled us with joy and support.
What a trip to remember, what a trip to be told.
Storytelling, you can’t beat that.
Ever.
