Our experts shared the latest insights into drug markets in Europe and the growing security challenges they present.
With drug market-related violence on the rise, including in Belgium, EU-level collaboration is crucial to address intimidation, corruption and other threats linked to drug markets.

We value Belgium’s strong contribution through its Reitox national focal point, Sciensano, in strengthening Europe’s preparedness on drugs.

🔍 How can foresight shape better decisions for Europe’s future?

We are hosting the 10th meeting of the EU-ANSA futures cluster as part of our Futures Week here at the EUDA in Lisbon.

EU-ANSA is the EU Agencies’ Network on Scientific Advice, a platform that brings together agencies with strong science components to share knowledge and strengthen evidence-based policymaking.

Today we are exploring:

🤖 The role of AI in foresight processes
🛠️ Practical ways to integrate future insights into decision making
📢 Updates from EU-ANSA members and lessons from the European Strategy and Policy Analysis System (ESPAS)

✨ We were honoured to host European Commissioner Dubravka Suica at the EUDA today!

Commissioner Šuica is responsible for advancing the EU’s partnerships with the Mediterranean region and leads the work on the ‘Pact for the Mediterranean: One Sea, One Pact, One Future’.

Our talks focused on EUDA cooperation with Mediterranean partners to tackle drug-related threats and how we might contribute to the Pact’s upcoming action plan.

How can stronger partnerships improve preparedness across the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) region?

📍 We are in Athens with our Greek national focal point ΕΠΙΨΥ / UMHRI co-hosting the EU4Monitoring Drugs II Project Advisory Committee meeting.

This project supports the EU’s neighbouring countries in Eastern Europe and the Southern Mediterranean to strengthen drug monitoring systems, improve data collection and build capacity for evidence-based policies.

🤝 For the first time, civil society partners are joining the discussion, reinforcing our shared commitment to inclusive drug policies.

🟣 Protecting Europe’s youth from criminal networks

The last thematic session of the EUDA Reference Group meeting explored how to prevent young people from being recruited into Europe’s illicit drug markets — a growing challenge that happens both on the street and online.

Experts discussed strategies for early prevention, stronger referral pathways and community partnerships, alongside innovative digital monitoring tools that detect early signs of online recruitment. The session highlighted the need for strengthening evidence-based responses to protect vulnerable youth and to enhance resilience.
