This was a Surfer magazine cover shot, photo by Steve Wilkings, in January 1974. I expect it was in the March issue. It took about 3 months for the mags to come out.

My board was a 7’0” BK which I bought from my Smirnoff winnings, the trunks were Katins and they were free. I had ZERO sponsors.

Surfer’s coverage helped Clyde and Eddie , Jericho, Margo and many others helped make the IPS and then the ASP work.

Every surfer who has ever had a paycheck should mourn the passing of Surfer and should bend a knee to the people I’ve mentioned.

Without them you’d be laying bricks or working as a waitress.
