I have run into a few train strikes in Europe, but never with a 1-year-old. Shout out to the bus system for accommodating us quickly for 1/3 of the price.

Traveler tip: buy online! There was a huge line at the bus station in Porto and I skipped it by buying online.

Never let a sleeping baby slow you down, just learn how to let them fall asleep. Through trial and error we found it best to let her pass out while on my back and turn her around front-facing once she was asleep to support her neck. What has worked for you?

We are traveling internationally for the first time with our 1-year-old and even though she’s been a rockstar, I only want to push her so far. Hence this day trip from Lisbon to Cascais. It is an easy 45 minute train ride. There is a cute little downtown with shops and restaurants, but also a lovely walk by the ocean where we snapped these photos.

Traveler’s note: our guide got us a shot of ginja in a chocolate cup before we trekked up the very large hill to capture the view. Ginja is a traditional Portuguese liqueur infused with sour cherries, sugar and cinnamon.
