At this time of year in the Azores, a powerful tradition takes place. Across the islands, pilgrims known as Romeiros walk long distances as an act of faith, sacrifice, and devotion.
Most visible on São Miguel, this centuries-old tradition reflects the deep spiritual roots shared across all nine islands.
Walking through villages, fields, and coastal roads, the Romeiros stop to pray, sing, and reflect, carrying their intentions with them.
It’s more than a journey across the island,
it’s a journey of faith, humility, and community.
In the Azores, faith is not only spoken…
sometimes, it is walked.
