Uma Celebração Muito Especial – 5.º Aniversário da Praça do Emigrante 🇵🇹🌍
Este ano, a Associação dos Emigrantes Açorianos celebra com grande orgulho uma data muito significativa — o 5.º Aniversário da Praça do Emigrante na Ribeira Grande.
Para assinalar esta ocasião especial, a Associação irá atribuir quatro distinções em reconhecimento às instituições e pessoas fundamentais que tiveram um papel decisivo na concretização deste sonho.
A nossa mais profunda gratidão a:
🙏 Câmara Municipal da Ribeira Grande – pelo apoio e compromisso desde o início na criação deste espaço público que homenageia a nossa comunidade emigrante.
🙏 Luís Silva – cuja visão e dedicação deram início a este projeto que hoje representa a coragem e os sacrifícios dos emigrantes.
🙏 Fernando Monteiro – o arquiteto responsável pelo projeto da Praça, que deu forma e identidade a este tributo tão especial.
🙏 Carlos Meneses – o construtor que materializou o sonho com o seu trabalho, e que continua, até hoje, a cuidar e manter este monumento público — incluindo o globo e o painel/mural — preservando a sua beleza e significado para as gerações futuras.
A Praça do Emigrante é mais do que um monumento físico — é um símbolo vivo de memória, resiliência e orgulho da diáspora açoriana.
Junte-se a nós nesta celebração e na homenagem a todos aqueles que tornaram este espaço possível. Continuemos a lembrar e a celebrar os sacrifícios, as contribuições e as histórias dos nossos emigrantes — de ontem, de hoje e de sempre. 💙🌎

This year, the Azorean Emigrant Association proudly celebrates a truly meaningful milestone — the 5th Anniversary of Emigrant Square in Ribeira Grande.
To mark this special occasion, the Association will be awarding four honours in recognition of the key individuals and institutions who played an instrumental role in turning this powerful vision into a lasting reality.
We offer our heartfelt thanks to:
🙏 City Hall of Ribeira Grande – for embracing and supporting the creation of this public space that honours our emigrant community.
🙏 Luís Silva – whose vision and passion sparked the idea that became Emigrant Square, a monument to the courage and sacrifices of emigrants everywhere.
🙏 Fernando Monteiro – the talented architect behind the design of the Square, whose creativity gave shape to this meaningful tribute.
🙏 Carlos Meneses – the dedicated builder who brought the vision to life with his hands, and who continues to maintain and care for the monument, including the iconic globe and mural, preserving its beauty and significance for future generations.
Emigrant Square stands not only as a physical monument, but as a powerful symbol of memory, resilience, and pride for the Azorean diaspora.
