More than just a training, this was a space for growth, connection and meaningful moments.
A beautiful ending and a new beginning. ❤️

In the afternoon, we celebrated our cultures with music, food and connection. ❤️

Today we talked about our feelings and our emotions.
We explored the five components of emotional intelligence and how we can use them in our daily lives. 🧠

It wasn’t always easy, but it was real. And that’s where growth begins. ❤️

We talked about empathy, mental health, and the stigmas that still exist.
Through simple exercises, we practiced putting ourselves in someone else’s shoes.

We ended the day in silence, with a moment of meditation. 🧠

And this is just the beginning!

All good things must come to an end, and this week our three and a half month project wrapped up. After an intensive, and at times unconventional assignment, we returned to the tasks we know best: from caring for birds at the zoo to playing with children. But our final workweek held a sweet surprise— a heartfelt farewell party organized by the wonderful members of the Red Cross. Our custom T-shirts summed it up perfectly: three and a half months of living, memories for a lifetime.

Todas as coisas boas têm de chegar ao fim e, esta semana, o nosso projeto de três meses e meio chegou ao seu término. Depois de uma missão intensiva e, por vezes, pouco convencional, regressámos às tarefas que melhor conhecemos: desde cuidar de aves no jardim zoológico até brincar com crianças. No entanto, a nossa última semana de trabalho reservou-nos uma doce surpresa: uma festa de despedida sentida, organizada pelos maravilhosos membros da Cruz Vermelha. As nossas t-shirts personalizadas resumiam tudo na perfeição: três meses e meio em Sanguedo, memórias para toda a vida.

Na passada quinta-feira, vivemos uma manhã cheia de sabor e partilha!

Tivemos o privilégio de explorar o melhor da culinária alemã e italiana com as incríveis alunas da Universidade Sénior. Entre risos, histórias e muitas dicas de cozinha, preparámos juntos receitas que aqueceram o coração (e o estômago!).

O resultado? Uma deliciosa focaccia, uma pizza irresistível e um bolo de maçã de deixar água na boca – tudo feito com muito carinho e espírito de equipa.

Porque cozinhar juntos é também uma forma de criar memórias.

"Most of all, being a volunteer means one thing: colorful variation every single day.
This week was filled with many hours of commitment to our two murals at the Senior University – even darkness at night could not stop us from painting. Finally, we can proudly admire the finished result!
Moreover, it was all hands on deck when our trusty van, an all-time companion, needed a wash, or when some of us moderated a cooking class for the elderly at the Senior University, sharing the Italian and German cuisine with the Portuguese community. During the weekend, we brought a selection of clothes from the Solidarity Store, another frequent workplace of us, and organized a flea market. Here in Sanguedo, no week is like the other. ☀️"

"Acima de tudo, ser voluntário da significa uma coisa: nenhum dia é aborrecido ou igual aos anteriores.
Esta semana foi preenchida com muitas horas de dedicação aos nossos dois murais na Universidade Sénior - nem mesmo a escuridão da noite nos impediu de pintar! Finalmente, podemos agora admirar com orgulho o resultado final!
Para além disso, foi preciso dar tudo por tudo quando a nossa fiel carrinha, companheira de sempre, precisou de uma lavagem, ou quando alguns de nós deram uma aula de culinária para as alunas da Universidade Sénior, partilhando a cozinha italiana e alemã com a comunidade portuguesa. Durante o fim de semana, trouxemos uma seleção de roupa da Loja Solidária, outro local de trabalho frequente, e organizámos uma Feira da Ladra. Aqui em Sanguedo, nenhuma semana é igual à outra. ☀️"

"One thing about our group is that boredom is never an option! Whether it’s just helping costumers in the loja solidaria, having a pilates class or carrying stuff around with the van we always find a way to make it funnier.
In fact, we were so exited to kick off our new personal project- the renovation of the Senior University’s garden- that we started with unexpectedly decorating our own van. As we decided to work on this project as a team, as a team we found a way to embrace our mess, clean it up and laugh about it.
Our weekend was busier than usual between helping the seniors in the Easter market and the solidarity market with the food pick-up, but it’s always so rewarding to give back to the Portuguese community that welcomed us so wholeheartedly❤️"

"Uma coisa sobre o nosso grupo é que o tédio nunca é uma opção! Quer se trate de ajudar os clientes na loja solidária, de ter uma aula de pilates ou de carregar coisas com a carrinha, encontramos sempre uma forma de tornar as coisas mais divertidas.
Na verdade, estávamos tão entusiasmados com o início do nosso novo projeto pessoal - a renovação do jardim da Universidade Sénior - que começámos por decorar inesperadamente a nossa própria carrinha. Como decidimos trabalhar neste projeto como uma equipa, abraçamos as dificuldades com coragem e risos.
O nosso fim de semana foi mais atarefado do que o habitual entre ajudar os idosos no mercado da Páscoa e o mercado solidário com a recolha de alimentos, mas é sempre muito gratificante retribuir à comunidade portuguesa que nos acolheu de braços abertos ❤️"
