PICE QATAR Concludes 2025 Mid-Year International Conference at Dusit D2 Hotel

Doha, Qatar – July 25, 2025
With the theme “A Resilient Future: Through Transformative and Innovative Engineering Practices,” the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers Qatar Chapter (PICEQ), in partnership with the Federation of Global Engineers (FGE), successfully hosted the 2025 Mid-Year International Conference at Dusit D2 Hotel, Salwa Road, Doha — with simultaneous access via Zoom for international attendees.
More than just a gathering, the event earned 3.00 CPD units (OCE-2010-001-2439) and served as a platform to explore sustainability, innovation, and resilience in infrastructure through these expert-led technical sessions:

𝗢𝗙𝗪𝘀, 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲, 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗙𝗪 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹

Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families are expected to receive expanded health care and support with the continuous upgrade of the OFW Hospital on its medical equipment, and offered services.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac and OFW Hospital Acting Medical Chief Dr. Patrick Louie Maglaya on Thursday reported the new equipment, facilities and offered services of the hospital that are expected to provide quality and specialized medical care to the unique needs of OFWs and their dependents.

“I want to reiterate that here in our OFW Hospital, there are no money involved, wala pong binabayaran ang ating mga OFW-patients, and that’s a testament to the continuing efforts of the government in bringing medical care and health services to our OFWs as directed by our dear President,” Secretary Cacdac said.

The OFW Hospital is the first and only medical institution in the Philippines that provides free medical services to OFWs and their dependents.

Among the improved health care that the hospital will offer include expanded radiology services with its new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine, and digital mammography.

Also, the OFW Hospital will be providing additional laboratory services including HBA1 or hemoglobin test, drugs test, and aqua electrolyte analyzer.

A complete pulmonary function test and cardio exercise test are also being tested for the upgrade of the hospital’s respiratory unit. The hospital now has treadmill stress test and holter monitoring device for heart unit.

The OFW Hospital is awaiting for the certification from the Department of Health (DoH) for its Level 2 Accreditation, to formally and fully implement its expanded services, including the use of its Intensive Unit Care (ICU).

The Bagong Pilipinas OFWH Cancer Care Center, the groundbreaking of which was led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in December 2024, is also expected to be finished and operational within his term. The facility is an expansion of its available services, providing hemodialysis and cancer care units for OFWs and their qualified dependents with chronic kidney disease and cancer.

The OFW Hospital for 2025 (as of June) alone already served more than 50,000 OFWs and dependents needing immediate and necessary health and medical care. # # #

Better cyber protection is on guard for women overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), their children, and families against scams and exploitation with the strengthened partnership between the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Women in Security Alliance Philippines (WiSAP).
The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed in time with the observance of the World Day Against Trafficking, aimed at empowering and protecting women OFWs against cyber scams and trafficking.
The partnership supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to digitalize government services and protect OFWs from online trafficking and other cyber threats.
Under the agreement, the DMW and WiSAP will work together on knowledge-sharing on cybersecurity, information campaigns, training and capacity building, and empowering women OFWs through WiSAP membership.
DMW Assistant Secretary Jerome A. Alcantara reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to digitalization while emphasizing the need for vigilance in cybersecurity.
“The trend in government right now is digitalization, we are migrating a lot of our systems and processes online. And while it poses a lot of benefits, it also poses serious threats in cyber safety and security. It will be irresponsible to not look at potential threats and not be prepared to deal with that,” Alcantara said.
He also underscored the global forces shaping this collaboration—digitalization, migration, and security—and highlighted the alignment between DMW and WiSAP’s programs in addressing these issues.
WiSAP President Carmela Migrino, meanwhile, expressed the organization’s strong commitment to empowering OFW women and supporting the DMW in enhancing its cybersecurity initiatives.
“We also wanted to collaborate with the DMW on strengthening their cybersecurity policies and practices and to provide guidance on how they can build a roadmap towards cyber resilience. Also, we are one with the DMW in their fight against human trafficking,” said Migrino.
WiSAP is a non-stock, non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women to lead and contribute meaningfully in the field of cybersecurity. # # #
