Turn that sound on to hear the cacophony of birds who ruined my peaceful sunset on Christmas Eve in Panama City.

Have you tried scuba diving before??

Perhaps you’re aware that you can actually dive without being certified through a program called Discover Scuba Diving. This was my fourth time doing this program (I know, I should just get certified already).

I was diving with and an underwater photographer approached me about how he’d be diving with my group to photograph this other family and to see if I wanted to buy his photos. The price was very steep and I declined.

He had this incredible underwater photography rig with flash and everything, and hand signals to tell you what to do.

After returning to shore, he told me he’d taken some photos of me and asked me again if I wanted them so he didn’t just trash them. We negotiated a much lower price, and I have to say I’m glad I got them!

Which one is your favorite?

I’d always heard Honduras wasn’t so safe, but do your own research! You can fly from the U.S. directly to Roatán, a massive island on the Caribbean side that is very safe. It’s an excellent place for diving and for sporting sloths in adventure parks (if that’s your thing).

How about that Corniche view in Doha? Pretty cool right?

Epic Sri Lanka Itinerary

Start off in Colombo where you’ll land. Take a moment to check out the vibrant Pettah neighborhood and see the Red Mosque.

Next take an early train to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s first capital. You’ll get there in time for lunch and then an afternoon visit to Mihintale, where Buddhism is said to have arrived in Sri Lanka.

Spend a full day exploring the ruins of Anuradhapura, a very significant and large site that spans 20 square kilometers. A good way to get around is by bicycle.

The next place you want to go is Polonnaruwa, which was Sri Lanka’s second capital. The ruins are much more together and just plain stunning. There are also meticulously carved buddhas.

The last ancient place to visit is Sigiriya, which was a mountain fortress of a false king! It’s a story so wild it feels like it’s straight out of Game of Thrones. Make sure you watch the sunset from nearby Pidurangala Rock for a great view.

Stop by Dambulla for the cave temples and Kandy for The Temple of the Tooth, which is said to hold one of the Buddha’s teeth!

Head to Nallathaniya by taking the train to Hatton and then a bus from the station. This is where you can head up to the summit of Adam’s Peak, a sacred mountain that you climb overnight. The sunrise at the top is worth it and this was my favorite experience in Sri Lanka.

From there, make your way to Nuwara Elya. I suggest going by tuk-tuk to see the sites of tea country. While there, explore the British architecture and hike part of the Pekoe Trail.

End your trip in touristy Ella, or continue on to a national park or the coast.

What’s the story here? ⬇️

I only had one day to explore Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital, and I knew I had to see one thing.

Colombo is famous for its Red Mosque, officially called the Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque. I’ve seen many mosques around the world, but never one that looked like this one!

Located in the vibrant Pettah neighborhood of Sri Lanka, the tiny surrounding blocks were absolutely crazy. People and motorbikes were everywhere, often with both carrying large pieces of goods. It’s amazing I managed to get any of these photos given the surrounding scene around me!

The mosque was not open to foreigners on the day that I visited, so I do not see the inside. But definitely check this out if you’re ever in Colombo.
