Persian Wheels Water Lifting Irrigation Old Traditional Farming Technology
In this video, we explore the amazing ancient Persian water wheel system that was used for lifting water from rivers, canals, and wells for irrigation. This traditional technology has been used for hundreds of years in farming and is still found in some rural agricultural areas.
🌾 What is a Persian Water Wheel?
It is an old irrigation mechanism powered by animals or flowing river water which lifts water using pots or buckets fitted on a rotating wheel. This system was widely used in Persia (Iran), Pakistan, India, and the Middle East.
🚜 Uses of Persian Water Wheel:
✔ Irrigation of crops
✔ Filling small ponds & reservoirs
✔ Drinking water for cattle
✔ Sustainable farming in villages
The wheel rotates continuously and the attached earthen / metal pots scoop water and pour it into a channel. From there, the water reaches farms through traditional water channels.
