We're excited to introduce Maggie Calder, meditation teacher, wellness advocate, and host of "The Zen Den: Pearls of Wisdom with Maggie Calder." SHEQONOMI and PodcastHERS are proud to work with Calder on this new podcast for anyone seeking inner peace in daily life.
"The Zen Den" presents honest conversations about finding peace without waiting for life to quiet down first. Listeners learn from ancient spiritual teachings and everyday breakthroughs, exploring how to access stillness when life feels chaotic. Calder and her guests discuss finding peace while navigating life’s shifts, exploring real challenges and their journeys back to balance—what Calder calls their "Zen state."
Calder brings decades of experience to the mic, from years as a Buddhist nun to working alongside spiritual teachers like internationally recognized Eckhart Tolle and spiritual guide Mooji. Her path wound through retreat centers, monasteries, and humanitarian projects. In the early 1990s, she worked as Tolle's assistant and private chef, later opening Heartland retreat center in Illinois that hosted teachers including Mooji. A trip to Northern Thailand led her to relocate and spend 4 years studying under Buddhist monk Phra Bhasakorn, becoming ordained as nun-monk Maytiwee.
Her pre-monastery life wasn't a straight path to stillness: Calder raced motorcycles, worked as a professional cook, and co-owned a Chicago renovation company. In 2002, she opened the Get Real Zen Center in Victoria, BC, offering meditation coaching and her practice, Mandala Movement.
Through "The Zen Den," Calder brings the sacred into everyday life, drawing on lessons from her teachers: "Eckhart taught me the now, Mooji taught me love, and Bhasakorn taught me truth.” Each episode invites listeners to discover what she calls "the wisdom within that is ready to be lived."
