La musica house è fondata dalle radici dei club e nelle discoteche delle comunità afroamericane, latine e q***r di Chicago e New York della prima metà degli anni ’80, in questo incredibile momento di fermento culturale e musicale, la house assorbe e rielabora le sonorità della disco music e del funk, cibandosi di fatto del groove tipico dei tardi anni ‘70, anche il suo nome deriva dagli ambienti in cui veniva suonata inizialmente, essendo ispirato dal Warehouse: iconico locale di Chicago in cui il DJ resident Frankie Knuckles, noto come "The Godfather of House", faceva impazzire la pista con i suoi brani. Un genere nato nei primi anni ’80 quindi, che ha influenzato il panorama musicale degli ultimi trent’anni a tal punto che, si dice, tra il 1989 e il 2009 saranno pubblicate più canzoni house che di qualunque altro genere musicale.
