We tend to fear what we do not know - and that’s where much of the fear around AI comes from. But if we look at the actual level of AI development, there’s no real reason to fear it. At least, not yet.

Today I had the pleasure of meeting Francesco Buscemi, the author of the book "The Island on an Island: The Cultural History of Costa Smeralda."
The presentation highlighted interesting aspects of Costa Smeralda’s cultural and economic development, raising questions about the probability of similar patterns occurring in other parts of the world today, especially in regions like Italy and Greece, where local communities are often overwhelmed by tourism, yet deeply dependent on it.

In today’s Elsevier webinar on Communicating Research, early-career researchers raised concerns about how to convey their findings credibly while using AI tools.
Here is my perspective on the matter:
The credibility of your research largely depends on how AI tools are used. If employed primarily for tasks such as spelling correction or language refinement, rather than generating content or fabricating evidence, their impact on the legitimacy of your work is minimal.
In the end, it all comes down to the way you use these tools and paper transparency.
Clearly state which tools were used, how and why you used them, and always verify the accuracy of the information they help produce.

Because technology is now closer to us than ever, we've recently been reflecting on its positive and negative impacts on science. Today’s webinar on 'Trust in AI in Science Confirmation' highlighted researchers' growing concerns about the effects of AI on scientific competencies such as analysis and critical thinking, the erosion of academic integrity, and the potential biases in AI-generated content.
