The 14 episode “Lombarzilor 8” by Mimi Branescu and Dan Chiriac, inaugurated in 2006 the company’s TV series production line and new company Mandragora Movies. The first documentary, “TUB – TransUrbanBucuresti” by Cristi Puiu, 2008, was followed by “Metrobranding” by Ana Vlad and Adi Voicu, released this year. The same team of directors also sign the latest Mandragora production, “Victoria”. Mandragora is committed to the idea of making movies that explore new ways in the cinema discourse. It also launches new talents, encouraging personal, coherent approaches of the young filmmakers. The value of the movies produced by Mandragora is confirmed by the audience’s interest, critics’ attention and prizes: “The Death of Mr. Lăzărescu” won “Un Certain Regard” and over 40 national and international other prizes, being one of the most-awarded movie in the Romanian cinema, “Megatron” won several awards, starting with “Palme d’Or” for short film, “Francesca” after its presents at Orizzonti, Venice 2009, was recognized with the FIPRESCI award (Gijon) and Bursa prize, “Aurora” by Cristi Puiu was in Cannes 2010 and most recently “Morgen” by Marian Crisan won 4 prizez at Locarno Film Festival in 2010. Director Cristi Puiu is often invited to be part of various festival juries, the most notable being “Un Certain Regard” in 2007 and this year he was the Director of the jury in Sarajevo film Festival.

🎬 Ieri a fost ultima proiecție a filmului INK WASH în cadrul Mostra Internacional de Cinema de São Paulo.

Suntem recunoscători și onorați că „Ink Wash” a făcut parte din selecția oficială a Mostra Internacional de Cinema de São Paulo, unul dintre cele mai importante festivaluri de film din America Latină.

Filmul a avut patru proiecții în cadrul festivalului, întâlnindu-se cu un public curios, cald și deschis, o experiență care ne-a bucurat enorm.

Mulțumim echipei Mostra São Paulo pentru invitație și pentru modul în care celebrează cinemaul din toată lumea.

,,Documentarea fotografică pentru Ink Wash este unul dintre proiectele artistice speciale la care am avut ocazia să particip. Selecția de imagini pe care o prezentăm pentru prima oară în expoziția Beneath the Ink am făcut-o împreună cu Sarra Tsorakidis, autoarea acestui film. Pentru asta a fost nevoie să parcurgem de la zero întreaga arhivă fotografică pe care am realizat-o. Ne-am dorit să scoatem la iveală un strat de imagine mai puțin descriptiv și tipic să zicem pentru fotografia de platou, și în schimb, să încercăm să transmitem mai degrabă un sentiment complementar și o stare anume despre film, totul fiind fotografiat într-o cheie personală.”

“Puiu found the primary function of cinema: a technique for investigating reality, a means of recording the world. In an article in Dilema on his debut film Stuff and Dough he said: 'In my final year I was interested in the realist film. My purpose was to abolish the frontier between fiction and documentary, in an attempt to bring together the observer and the inventor. I wrote all about it in my graduation thesis. If I applied some of the conclusions I had reached, they would’ve enabled the creation of a different type of cinema.' “
