The Corps - Watch it Burn

The Aussies are back after more than a decade and don't mess around as this entire album is executed in full-force. You pick up the vibe at once when it starts playing. It's melodic rock'n'roll with a strong hardcore and streetpunk touch, mainly because of the harsh vocals and overall atmosphere. The solos are really crazy and can be found everywhere on the album, like a mixing agent for all the genres and influences. 🎸Sometimes it does sound very metal but that's just an Aussie thing I guess. 🤘🍻
All in all, the new album carries on with the style by which the band distinguished itself, but this release here hits me different, maybe just because I'm nostalgic or it's just what the scene today really needs. 👍The title track "Watch it burn" is the one that probably stands out, it's the last one on the album, it's fast, catchy, and fades out with dusty accoustic notes. Hopefully, this is not the end, but a new beginning. 🥹🍻

New issue of the zine is in the works. I've recently started several interviews and one of the bands on the list is LLAZY CLASSfrom Poland, which has been on repeat on my boombox this past year. 🎼 The tape here was released back in 2016 and is a compilation of their earlier stuff. Dunno how many copies were made, but I'm pretty thrilled to have found this one at a small distro this late summer. 🍻🧛‍♂️
Stay tuned for more info on the 4th issue of Strig:Oi! zine. Will prolly be out in a few months or so. Expect a rather classic version, including record reviews, gig reports, different columns etc., in-depth interviews, all in English! Only print is real and print's not dead! ✊

V/A: Intercontinental oi!

This compilation here features 4 of the top SHARP bands of the moment. Red Bricks from Hamburg plays melodic and catchy streepunk, sung in English; The Uncouth is raw, fast paced and in your face oi! band from the United States; An Slua plays old school Irish power oi!; Reckless Upstarts from Canada delivers a classic stomping oi! with anthemic choruses. Each band's got 3 songs and they fit together just fine, would also make a great concert bill. 🍻
"Under the Gun" track by The Uncouth stands out. It's not their usual style, got this crazy guitar solo and a heavy rock'n'roll feel to it, brings out some clear and memorable vocals and intense lyrics, it looks like the band's just reached a new level. 😎

Hellshock PDX - XXV

Portland giants are back with an anniversary mini-album that's very much into old-school death metal, with guitar lines in the veins of Bolt Thrower and Asphyx, but still true to the crust sound overall. 😲😵‍💫☠️The slower paced tempo, although it's also got some faster passages, plus the gloomy melodies build quite the funeral atmosphere. The synth segments and the accoustic guitar also contribute a great deal to this prevalent dark vibe. 👻This definitely shows the album benefits from a complex production, while retaining a raw and uncompromising sound after all. 🍻

Apparently, the thrash metal scene in Romania is more closely connected to punk rock than in our part of the world, because, as in previous issues, about four of the reports in this issue are from the black and death metal corner. The remaining include interviews with Day Drinker from the Netherlands, Straight Red FC from the USA, Falcata from Lisbon, Fearless Veterans from Madrid, Remdik from Slovakia, and Resolver and Cantona from Australia. The interviews average six pages and explore musical, political, and regional aspects, which is interesting and, above all, very informative. The layout is another plus point: well-structured and illustrated with many pictures and drawings, making it a pleasant read. The issue comes with a sticker, a poster, a postcard, and an acorn from Wallachia, which comes from a 600-year-old oak tree that stands on the former lands of Vlad Dracul! So, a little Bram Stoker for the flowerpot! Anyone with a moderate grasp of English can easily understand everything without a dictionary. I like the book, even though I'm not into metal."

An Slua - Sure Look It

That's it! Eire's cooking now. 🇮🇪 The debut full length from An Slua does sound pretty modern for an oi! band, but with obvious old school influences, combining raw elements with very melodic passages, while bass lines come in full force. Makes you think of Oi Polloi, Angelic Upstarts and the likes. 🤩It's got 10 anthemic tracks with some smart lyrics, which can be very social and political. ✊ The whole album's tough, can't really pick a favourite song, but it's gotta be either "Fed Up", "Gifts from Galway" or.. well, they've all got very catchy tunes, and since every track lasts around 2 minutes only, I find myself playing either this or that again. 🍻

Vis Vires - The Wolves
Debut from this oi! project from the States featuring members of famous bands like The Templars for example. 😎 This came out back in 2018 on Battle Scarred records from California, and it was also the first ever release on this label. The cassette version was limited to 100 copies only. 😲
Here are 4 anthemic songs, which nicely blend oi! and hc, but also feature some more metallic riffs and solos, with a different pace in each song. Really good stuff! 🍻

Orreaga 778 – Herrimina

Basque Oi!-punk w/ melodic riffs, steady rhythm and powerful choruses; sung in their native tongue. It features 8 tracks, though it's quite a short play, around 20 minutes only. All in all it's a fairly good album. 👍🍻
