Strengthening Local Governance for Inclusive Development in Liberia

We are pleased to share the Concept Note for the upcoming International Policy Roundtable on Local Governance and Rural Development, a high-level dialogue aimed at advancing inclusive governance and sustainable development across Liberia.

The Roundtable will bring together policymakers, development partners, governance experts, local government officials, civil society representatives, and international practitioners to exchange global and regional experiences that can support Liberia's ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, which prioritizes Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism.

The event will serve as a platform for peer learning, comparative analysis, and evidence-based policy discussions focused on strengthening local governance systems, deepening decentralization, and enhancing the capacity of local institutions to drive development at the community level.

NPHIL Reassures Public Amid Ebola Rumors; No Confirmed Cases in Liberia

MONROVIA, Liberia – The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) has reassured the public that there are currently no confirmed or suspected cases of Ebola in the country, dismissing rumors circulating on social media and outlining enhanced surveillance measures at major points of entry.

Speaking during the Ministry of Information's regular press briefing on Tuesday, NPHIL Interim Director General, Dr. Sia Wata Camanor, urged citizens to remain calm and rely on verified information from health authorities.

“There are currently no confirmed or suspected cases of Ebola in Liberia,” Dr. Camanor stated.

“Health authorities, through the Ministry of Health, continue to maintain strict surveillance at Liberia’s border entry points to prevent the importation of Ebola and other infectious diseases.”

According to Dr. Camanor, health personnel have been deployed at key land border crossings and at Roberts International Airport, where temperature screening and other preventive measures are being implemented for incoming travelers.

She added that hand sanitizers and other essential public health materials have been positioned at strategic entry points to support ongoing disease prevention efforts.

To address growing misinformation, Dr. Camanor announced that the Ministry of Health and NPHIL will begin a nationwide public awareness campaign next week.

The initiative will include the distribution of informational flyers and community outreach activities aimed at providing accurate, science-based information and countering false claims circulating on social media.

She encouraged all citizens to continue practicing good hygiene, including regular handwashing and adherence to public health guidance issued by authorities.

MONROVIA, Liberia – The Government of Liberia has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security along its border with Guinea, with both countries agreeing to resolve all outstanding boundary disputes through dialogue and diplomatic cooperation.

Speaking on Tuesday during the Ministry of Information's regular press briefing, Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah disclosed that the agreement was reached during a recent regional summit attended by the Presidents of Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone in Côte d’Ivoire.

According to Minister Piah, the three leaders emphasized the importance of regional stability, peaceful coexistence, and mutual development as essential pillars for lasting security within the Mano River Basin.
