German commercial vehicle manufacturer Schmitz Cargobull, through its Romanian subsidiary, will buy 11.75 hectares in Industrial Park IV in Oradea for EUR 3.76 million, where it plans to build a EUR 25 mln factory, according to Romania Insider.

The company will build a hall of approximately 23,500 square metres for the production of chassis subassemblies for semi-trailers and the assembly of complete vehicles, ebihoreanul.ro reported.

Following an initial assembly footprint in the region, this expansion transitions Oradea into a core production hub for CEE markets, strengthening Western Romania’s position as a automotive and transport manufacturing corridor.

Romanian president Nicușor Dan appointed independent Luca Niculescu on Monday, October 5, to “harmonize positions” expressed by political parties and form a new government. “The choice came following today’s consultations. I chose the person who has the best chances of securing a majority. Over the past four years, he has been working on Romania’s accession process to the OECD; he has worked for the Romanian state,” Nicușor Dan said, according to Romania Insider.

OMV Petrom (BVB: SNN) and Romgaz (BVB: SNG) in a joint press release confirmed that the works at the Neptun Deep offshore gas field continue in line with the plan and the first amounts of natural gas will be pumped into the national distribution system in H1 next year, with the 8 billion cubic meters per year plateau production rate to be reached in Q3, according to Romania Insider.

The proposed minority government now faces committee hearings and a difficult confidence vote amid opposition from the Social Democrats and AUR. Romanian prime minister-designate Siegfried Mureșan submitted his governing programme and full cabinet list to Parliament on Saturday, September 26. The programme contains 372 measures prepared by experts from the three parties supporting him, namely the National Liberal Party (PNL), Save Romania Union (USR), and the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), according to Romania Insider.

On the A10 motorway between Sebeș and Turda, an important link between the A1 near Sebeș and the region around Cluj-Napoca, two of the three lanes have been closed for months. The cause is persistent ground instability beneath the carriageway at kilometre 66, which has repeatedly led to cracks and subsidence since 2023/2024, according to Europamaut.com.

Romania’s Cernavodă nuclear power plant, which has been shut down because of the low level of the Danube, could resume power generation “towards the end of the month”, with a specific date to be determined only after September 15, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy Cristian Bușoi said on September 8 following a meeting of the Energy Command, according to Romania-Insider.com.
