OUT NOW: Deerhoof - Perfect Kidz (Body Meat Remix)

This remix by Body Meat mashes up “Perfect Me” and “The Kidz Are So Small,” 2 tracks from Deerhoof’s transcendent eighth album, “Friend Opportunity.”

Body Meat first composed this remix for last year’s reissue of “Friend Opportunity,” and it is available now digitally for the first time. You can buy it on Bandcamp to support the artists or stream it at the link in our bio.

Church of Noise is now offering custom 7” lathe cut records - orders are open now at the link in our bio!

This is, really, a moment to reintroduce the Church of Noise. Church of Noise is a nonprofit 501c3. Our mission is to financially support adventurous music and to break down the traditional barriers within the music industry.

Back in 2020, the staff and artists of Joyful Noise helped create this organization for the purpose of serving the musicians most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, we’ve been able to award dozens and dozens of grants to musicians from all over the globe.

Now, as musicians needs have evolved, Church of Noise has evolved along with them. To further the mission, we opened a physical location in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Church of Noise is a multi-use community art space featuring art gallery showings of world-renowned visual artists. We also provide affordable access to vinyl record manufacturing via our lathe machine.

Last but not least, the Church of Noise houses the Sound Sanctuary. The Sound Sanctuary is the world’s first nonhuman musical artist. No AI, 100% organic.

Occasionally, we even invite some of the best musicians in the world to collaborate with the Sound Sanctuary and then we release those recordings. We’ve just released the first Sound Sanctuary release with Deerhoof, with collaborations coming from Kishi Bashi, JD Pinkus (Bu****le Surfers), and Yoni Wolf (WHY?).

At the end of the day, Church of Noise is a group of like-minded musicians and industry people who are committed to the cause of making sure that adventurous music does not go by the wayside.

There are no salaries taken at Church of Noise. There is no overhead. You can rest assured that any donation that you’re able to make is going straight to the cause of these musicians.

We’re also excited to announce that orders are now open for custom 7-inch lathe cut records, made in-house. We’ll press anything you want - at a price point that’s much more attainable to the average band than a full-on vinyl pressing. Click the link in our bio to order yours.

Have you heard Wendy Eisenberg’s self-titled album yet? It’s gotten some well-deserved good press since it released earlier this month.

Would love to hear your favorite tracks or any other thoughts about the record now that there’s been some time to let it percolate.

The first pressing is sold out, but pre-orders are open for the second pressing. LPs will ship in mid-July and CDs in mid May. In the meantime, you can stream the record - links to do that and pre-order are in our bio.

EVIDENCE
Limited edition ligneous reissues coming soon from Sleepytime Gorilla Museum!

Continuing their prolonged 2024 reunion, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum is embarking on a tour across the US. We’re also letting slip that Joyful Noise Recordings and Avant Night are joining forces to release special edition reissues of the band’s first three albums.

The band will be touring in May and July to celebrate their 25th anniversary and upcoming re-release. The Museum lineup features original members Nils Frykdahl (guitar, flute, voice), Carla Kihlstedt (violin, percussion guitar, voice), Dan Rathbun (bass, Pedal Action Wiggler, Sledge hammer Dulcimer, voice) and Michael ‘Iago’ Mellender (guitar, trumpet, percussion, voice, and an array of outlandish homemade musical devices such as the Electric Pancreas and the All New Lever-Action Lever). Joining them will be drummer Wes Anderson, who played with Nils, Carla and Dan in predecessor bands Idiot Flesh and Charming Hostess during the dubious and incendiary 1990’s.

We’re excited to reveal more details about these reissues. Pre-orders will open on 5/13. Tickets here: https://www.songkick.com/artists/549434-sleepytime-gorilla-museum

New single from Asher White: "Nightingale Version (Sailor's Moon)"

Asher says this song was "written in 2019 my sophomore year of college and originally appearing on that year’s In The Quarry. sort of embarrassing 'young' lyrics but an honest and undeniable melody. very meaningful song to me that i feared losing to time and wanted to dust off; the drums, vocals, and guitar are updated performances but i could not capture or recreate the idiosyncracies of the original piano and organ takes, which were recorded in a cavernous old church room on the RISD campus that someone had dragged an old Hammond organ and rickety upright piano into."

Asher is also touring the West Coast, kicking off very soon! Tickets here: https://asherewhite.com/pages/tour.html

Announcing: Record Store Day exclusive “Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted” - The original soundtrack from the movie!

In 2024, Magnolia Pictures released “Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted.” Set in the suburban San Fernando Valley, the film follows Swamp Dogg and housemates Moogstar and Guitar Shorty as they transform their home into an artistic playground and navigate the chaotic ups and downs of the music industry.

The soundtrack mirrors their journey - raw, joyful, weird, and deeply human - offering a snapshot of an entertainer committed to being fully, unapologetically himself.

This soundtrack is releasing on baby pink vinyl for Record Store Day 4/18. Visit your local RSD-participating record store to grab a copy!

🌱Now Introducing: The Sound Sanctuary, brought to you by Joyful Noise. Today we’re launching a new series of musical collaborations with plants, and we’re kicking it off today with a collaboration between Deerhoof and The Sound Sanctuary.

☘️We invite listeners to explore questions of plant consciousness with the signing of our newest and perhaps most radical artist: The Sound Sanctuary. A living collective, the Sound Sanctuary is a plant ensemble centered around a towering money tree (Pachira aquatica) and four rubber trees (Ficus elastica).

🌍In harmony with natural cycles, we’re releasing four collaboration albums this year, beginning with Deerhoof in the Spring (out now), followed by Kishi Bashi, JD Pinkus (Melvins, Bu****le Surfers), and Yoni Wolf (WHY?) in summer, fall, and winter. Deerhoof & The Sound Sanctuary is out digitally on April 14, 2026, with the standalone 10”” and box set bundle expected to ship in August 2026.

🌳As streaming platforms introduce artificial artists designed to harvest profits once sustained by living musicians, the Sound Sanctuary seeks inspiration in the frequencies of the natural world.

🎹The engineering behind this interaction is rooted in a generative system in which the plants themselves act as composers. Electrodes attached to the leaves detect subtle changes in electrical conductivity caused by the movement of water during photosynthesis. This biological data is translated into MIDI, effectively giving the plants a musical voice. While the Sound Sanctuary determines the underlying notes and tempo, a synthesizer connected to the plants allows human collaborators to shape the sound.

🎧The collaborative performance between Deerhoof and The Sound Sanctuary is available now digitally. You can also order a 10” vinyl of the collaboration on our website, pressed on 100% recycled vinyl. It’ll ship out in August. Also available for pre-order is the Sound Sanctuary 2026 Box Set, which includes all four Sound Sanctuary releases in a hand-made wooden box, also shipping in August.

Click the link in our bio to listen to Deerhoof & The Sound Sanctuary, order the 10”, or order the box set.
