This was the view that awaited us on the second part of our Blue Danube tour. We saw this view twice: once from this viewpoint and the second time from the river itself! How beautiful is this? This is the Golubać Fortress in the Ðerdap (Iron Gate) National Park in Serbia. It was the first stop of our Blue Danube tour last Sunday, and what a stop! We were told that the fortress has been closed for five years due to renovations and just reopened in March. We were in Serbia at just the right time to see it!

Our second tour, a free walking tour of Underground Belgrade, was a real eye-opener. It's difficult to pin down what Belgrade is. A European city? Asian city? Roman ruins? Foodie heaven? Historical city? We were really surprised by how much of Serbia's history we can see by going underground-- and, okay, it was a great way to escape the heat too!

We're skipping ahead way into the future (Greece was actually 7 months ago) to bring you to last week... mainly because we bought a new hard drive and forgot to transfer old videos onto it for editing. We are in Belgrade, Serbia, where the čevapis are delicious, the sun is hot, the ruins are Roman, and the language is written in Cyrillic AND Latin characters. We're using this as a bit of a treat after some of our recent frantic travels, but we'll still get out to see some of the sights of this multicultural city!

We did a full-day boat ride around Santorini, swimming in hot springs and hiking up to the top of the caldera, the remnants from the volcanic eruption that created Santorini. It was a fantastic day, and it ended with watching one of the most beautiful sunsets ever while we were serenaded by a saxophonist. Needless to say, we liked Santorini a whole lot more than Athens!

Our last day in Athens ruined our impression of the city. It's funny how one day can do that! We love Greece and would love to explore it more, but neither of us is keen to go back to Athens.

Sorry for the month-long hiatus! We spent the month travelling in North America, and due to some obligations and family commitments, we ended up travelling a LOT more quickly than we usually do, so I didn't have much time to edit videos. Here's a vlog in our Greece series of our last full day in Athens. We went on the "Athens for Foodies: More than Just a Greek Food Tour" food/walking tour with our wonderful guide, Tiama - and it turned out to be the best food tour we've ever had!

Going to Cape Sounion was actually a pretty last-minute decision, and we weren't sure that the taxi driver/tour guide we'd hired would actually show up. Luckily, he did, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely learning about the Temple of Poseidon that has its own place in Greek mythology. Worth the day trip from Athens for sure!

We went to Delphi for the archaeological site, and stayed in the NEW city of Delphi in the meantime. The city was sprawling and densely populated - it took us thirty minutes to find a parking spot in this charming but tiny, windy city. I couldn't fly my drone over the archaeological site of Delphi, so I contented myself with shots of the new Delphi...

Kalampaka in Greece is my FAVOURITE place to drone so far. Just so much beauty everywhere! It really felt like I was in prehistoric times, like a pterodactyl hiding behind these huge rock formations would not be out of place at all. If you only have time to go to one place in Greece, I think it should be Kalampaka - that's how much I love it!

On the second episode of our Athens series, we took a walking tour around this beautiful city (I know, surprise surprise). Almost as... memorable... was getting lost on the way back to our apartment from the tour, as we somehow ended up in the middle of shoulder-high grass in the middle of Athens. This city!

Athens, Greece, is a city we have mixed feelings for. On the one hand, we LOVE the cheap and delicious food, the archaeological sites interspersed among modern buildings, and its rich history. On the other hand, Athens can also be dirty, hot and crowded. You'll see more of both extremes during our Greek series, starting off with our first day in Athens!
