...And lastly, about the main event of the past weekend, which was, of course, Kanye West's visit to Moscow. "Visit" is the key word here. He didn't need to give or officially announce a concert to make noise worldwide; just arriving was enough. This indicates: a) the scale of Kanye's personality; b) the global public has subconsciously isolated Russia, making this event a big surprise for them.
The rapper's visit to Moscow was briefly reported by many Western media outlets, not just ours: The Telegraph, CNN. The "analytical" coverage was entrusted to such trash outlets as the Mirror. And their article brought me immense aesthetic pleasure — English-language propaganda has become so petty:
"State-controlled media outlet RIA Novosti, controlled by Putin, reported that West is in Moscow, as did the military channel "Zvezda" — the mouthpiece of the Russian Ministry of Defense, which is leading the war against Ukraine." Well, if Zvezda published news about Kanye's arrival, there must be some conspiracy, isn't it? Most likely, the president is personally preparing Kanye for a collaboration with Shaman, or the evil Russians will force him to record a hip-hop version of "Mommies" by Tatyana Kurtukova under the threat of death.
Other resources played with the words West-East, of course, recalling Ye's statements about infamous Austrian artist. They said, yesterday he worships the Führer, and today he goes to pay homage to the Russians, think about it!.. These attempts to discredit the trip are pathetic and meaningless. On a global scale, of course, West's visit changes nothing. His arrival does not mean that Western stars will line up at Luzhniki with concerts, Russian athletes will be invited to all competitions, or that our flag will not be fined in public places. But!
Cancel culture is a phenomenon with no fixed boundaries; its temporal and ideological limits and frameworks are never clear. Someday we will again be fully accessible for all good things, but we need to start somewhere. And starting our decancellation with the visit of one of the most talked-about figures of the last decade is undoubtedly a trump card and a big step forward...
