Depeche Mode have set the date for one of their most ambitious projects yet. Their upcoming concert film, M, will premiere in cinemas worldwide on October 28, 2025, in a limited engagement spanning over 2,500 theaters across more than 60 countries.

The film, first unveiled in April and greeted with high praise at the Tribeca Festival earlier this year, captures the band’s three sold-out performances at Mexico City’s Foro Sol Stadium during their Memento Mori world tour in 2023–2024. Beyond the live spectacle, M delves into the deep cultural and symbolic connections between music, mortality, and Mexican tradition.

Directed and conceived by award-winning Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías, the project blends concert footage with a narrative exploration of Mexico’s relationship with death — an ever-present theme in its art and celebrations. Frías, known for his Ariel Award-winning film I’m No Longer Here and 2023’s I Don’t Expect Anyone to Believe Me, brings a cinematic and culturally rooted perspective to the project.

The decades-long partnership between Daryl Hall and John Oates — one of the most successful duos in pop history — has officially reached its final chapter, not on stage, but in the courtroom.

After months of public tension, the two musicians have settled their dispute privately through arbitration, bringing an abrupt end to a bitter legal saga that began in November 2023. The conflict erupted when Hall accused Oates of trying to sell a stake in their joint business, Whole Oats Enterprises, without his knowledge or consent. According to Hall, he learned of the deal — involving music investment firm Primary Wave — only two days before departing for a month-long tour. He called the move a “bad faith” decision that could damage their brand, royalties, and intellectual property.

K-Pop music, whether featuring live artists like BTS or even virtual characters, continues its global ascent and popularity. This incredible success has been largely fueled by long-term and significant financial support from the South Korean government, which has helped nurture talent and promote the music internationally. However, now the country's major music organizations are seeking a different kind of domestic assistance: tax breaks, meaning the ability to pay less taxes to the government.

According to Korean media outlets like Chosun Biz, five influential music industry associations have formally appealed to the government. They want the music sector to receive comparable support to what's already extended to other popular creative fields – for example, video game development and the creation of popular digital comics (webtoons). Industry representatives are stressing that this is unfair. They point to the global hit, BTS's "Dynamite" music video, which, despite its massive worldwide recognition, doesn't qualify for tax deductions – unlike a successful blockbuster film or webtoon. Therefore, they are pressing for music to be included in the broader, comprehensive national policy supporting all cultural and entertainment content.

Spanish officials have fined the production team behind Katy Perry’s Lifetimes music video for filming inside a protected zone without proper authorisation. The incident took place on s’Espalmador, a dune-covered islet within the Ses Salines National Park in the Balearic Islands, a site with strict conservation rules.

An investigation launched in July 2024 confirmed that the local production company responsible for the shoot failed to secure required permits from the Balearic Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Fisheries. Authorities determined the breach to be “serious” but did not impose additional sanctions, citing the absence of lasting environmental damage.

The fine was set at €6,001 (approximately $7,000) and was promptly paid by the company.

Florence + The Machine have ignited speculation about their next project with a short, unsettling teaser video released on August 11. The clip shows frontwoman Florence Welch in a deserted, windswept field, frantically digging into the earth. The scene shifts to a shot from below as she peers into the hole, then unleashes three piercing screams. She wears a long red dress and matching shoes, reinforcing the eerie, cinematic tone.

The post came without a caption or official context, but it follows a wave of cryptic hints from Welch last month. At that time, she shared a series of images, including a whiteboard reading “You can have it all” alongside words like “clarity,” “power,” “purpose,” “vocals,” “space,” “dynamics,” and “beauty.” The selection appeared to carry a subtle nod to Adele.

The debate continues in Canada over a new law that streaming services themselves call the "streaming tax." Under this legislation, officially known as the Online Streaming Act, major global streaming platforms (like Netflix, Spotify, and others) are required to contribute 5% of all their revenues generated in Canada. These funds are earmarked for a special program that supports local Canadian artists and helps create more Canadian content – including films, music, and TV shows. Streaming companies are strongly opposing this.

Now, these companies have gained significant backing from U.S. Republican politicians. They have written a letter to the White House, urging President Biden to pressure Canada to scrap this law. They want this issue to become a part of the crucial trade negotiations between the two countries. The U.S. politicians claim that this Canadian law clearly discriminates against American companies, interferes with consumer choice, and harms American artists and rights holders.

Taylor Swift fans are in full speculation mode after a teaser for the next episode of New Heights, the podcast co-hosted by Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce and his brother Jason. Posted on August 11, the preview promised a “VERY special guest” and showed the brothers alongside a shadowed silhouette that some believe matches Swift.

Adding to the buzz, Jason appeared in a Swift-themed T-shirt, while the background of the promo image was orange — the same colour featured in a near-simultaneous post from Taylor Nation. That post, captioned “See you next era,” included a montage of Swift in orange outfits and went live exactly 12 minutes after the New Heights teaser, a timing many fans interpret as a nod to her 12th studio album.

Eminem — one of the best-selling rappers of all time, with over 220 million records sold — has long been a dominant figure in music. Yet in recent years, a new generation has discovered him not through The Slim Shady LP or Lose Yourself, but through the online gaming phenomenon Fortnite.

His first major collaboration with the game came in 2023 during The Big Bang live event, which also featured Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, Marshmello, and The Kid Laroi. The performance drew over 11 million viewers, alongside exclusive in-game content including Eminem-inspired skins, emotes, and weapons.

In 2024, he returned for the game’s remixed season two, joining Ice Spice, Juice WRLD, and Snoop Dogg. Eminem leaned into the crossover, promoting the launch with tongue-in-cheek humor and references to his signature “mom’s spaghetti” line.

Tyla, the 23-year-old South African singer behind the global hit Water, has revealed that early industry pressure to record pop tracks that didn’t reflect her identity left her in tears. In a recent interview, she recalled being pushed to record music she felt had nothing to do with her vision. The experience, she said, became a turning point, reinforcing her dedication to African sounds and her own creative instincts.

She described a moment when she refused to leave her hotel room to cut a song that didn’t feel authentic. Eventually persuaded to go to the session, she realized the discomfort only deepened her love for the music she truly wanted to make.

Her breakthrough single Water was recorded in a closed, intimate environment — just Tyla, her engineer, and his pregnant wife in the studio. She admits she was shy at the time, but the result went on to define her career.

Julian Casablancas has opened up about why The Strokes have been inactive since their 2020 album The New Abnormal. In a recent interview, the singer admitted that financial obligations began to outweigh creative purpose, changing the essence of the group.

“When I started making music, becoming passionate about my dreams and vision, I had a very clear idea of how I wanted things to evolve,” he said. But over time, that vision shifted. Casablancas compared The Strokes’ situation to legacy acts like Bon Jovi or Green Day, suggesting the band could have kept touring and recording indefinitely — but only out of habit and financial motivation.

According to him, the dynamic had “pushed creativity into the background,” leading to a decision to focus on The Voidz, his experimental side project. He cited Miles Davis’s belief that “the real risk is not changing” as a guiding principle. For Casablancas, comfort and security aren’t worth sacrificing artistic evolution.

India's most iconic, longest-running, and largest electronic dance music (EDM) festival, Sunburn, which kicked off in Goa in 2007, is now making a big move to the city of Mumbai. Organizers polled their fanbase and found a strong desire for the festival to be more accessible and offer something fresh beyond Goa. Mumbai emerged as the clear frontrunner among their preferences, and that wish has now been granted, with organizers promising an even grander experience due to stronger infrastructure and improved accessibility for attendees.

In another significant development, Sunburn will also be moving its dates earlier, shifting away from the crowded New Year's period to early December 2025, specifically from December 19-21. This isn't Sunburn's first rodeo when it comes to location changes; the festival previously had a stint in Pune from 2016-2018 before returning to Goa in 2019. It was also at this time that it was acquired by BigTree Entertainment, the parent company of the popular ticketing platform BookMyShow, which also produces another major festival, Lollapalooza India, also held in Mumbai.

Once a rapper, then a punk rocker — now MGK turns to roots music while dismissing critics as insecure and trend-driven.

Colson Baker — best known under his former moniker Machine Gun Kelly — has entered a new phase. With Lost Americana releasing August 8, the genre-hopping artist distances himself even further from his hip-hop beginnings and pop-punk breakthrough. This time, he’s turning toward the dusty roads of Americana — and he's doing so with an unexpected ally: Bob Dylan.

In an interview released on August 6, MGK made it clear he’s unfazed by persistent criticism. “The hate for me has become so pop culture that it’s almost like that’s automatically what you say to fit in,” he said, dismissing his detractors as “conformists.” According to him, they don’t dislike him for what he does — they dislike him because hating MGK is “trendy.”
