Placebo are officially gearing up for a milestone moment. Speaking in Antwerp during an appearance on Belgium’s VRT Radio 1, frontman Brian Molko revealed that the band is preparing “something quite significant” to mark the 30th anniversary of their 1996 self-titled debut — a record that reshaped late-’90s alt-rock with its androgynous edge, razor-sharp riffs and Molko’s unmistakable vocal bite.
Molko didn’t confirm a full-album tour, but he didn’t rule it out either. Asked whether Placebo might perform the debut in its entirety, he teased: “We will definitely be doing something quite significant to celebrate the 30 years.” He called the comment “a scoop,” hinting that plans are well underway.
During the conversation, Molko also revisited the band’s unruly early days and their formative bond with Belgian art-rock innovators dEUS, with whom they toured in the ’90s. He described both groups as “chaotic” but artistically aligned, explaining how dEUS’ experimental debut Worst Case Scenario became a personal obsession and a long-term influence on Placebo’s own evolution — including their long-standing use of violin onstage.
