Jakob Schubert has won his 3rd Lead World Championship! Both Schubert and Luka Potocar topped the Final route, with the Austrian taking the title on countback all the way to Qualifications. Hamish McArthur earned Bronze.

Should be quite the memorable year for Schubert, 30. The Innsbruck native also took Bronze at the Olympics last month. He was the only athlete to podium at both events, and in fact was the only Olympic medallist competing in Moscow this week.

Seo Chaehyun is Lead World Champion! They 17-year-old from Seoul topped every route the setters put before her on her way to her first World Championships title. The Silver medal came down to time, as Natalia Grossman and Laura Rogoa tied at every stage of the competition. Grossman reached hold 37 faster to take 2nd place, leaving Rogora with the Bronze.

Fujii Kokoro is a World Champion! Fujii topped all four Finals problems, the only man to do so, en route to Gold in Moscow. He earned the only top of M1 and he flashed it. Narasaki Tomoa earned Silver with three tops, and Manu Cornu took Bronze with two tops.

Japanese men have claimed four consecutive Bouldering World Championships; Fujii (2021), Narasaki (2019), Harada Kai (2018), and Narasaki (2016).

The 2021 IFSC Paraclimbing World Championships concluded Friday in Moscow with some incredible performances and equally incredible storylines.

Lucie Jarrige won her fourth World Championship title, while her Team France teammate Solenne Piret won her third. Pavirtra Vanderhoven won Gold in her first World Championship, and now has three IFSC victories in 2021.

Aita Sho topped the B1 route to earn Gold. Romain Pagnoux claimed his fourth consecutive World title, and Matthew Phillips, just 20 years old, won his third World Championship Gold.

What a finish! Natalia Grossman is the 2021 Boulder World Champion, putting the most impressive of bows on an incredible breakout season. She topped all four problems in just seven attempts on her way to Gold. Camilla Moroni put on a brilliant performance, also topping all four problems on her way to Silver. Stasa Gejo’s two tops and four zones secured her the Bronze medal.

The first medals of the IFSC Climbing World Championships have been awarded in Moscow. Danyil Boldyrev and Natalia Kalucka are the 2021 Speed World Champions. Here are the podiums:

The 2021 IFSC Climbing / Paraclimbing World Championships start Wednesday in Moscow, and will feature Speed, Boulder and Lead competitions, but no combined event this year. Thankfully, the Paraclimbing World Championships are running inside the program this year.

The field is a bit unusual, with the Olympics and the World Championships being held so close together. It’s also difficult to know who of those registered will actually attend. Narasaki Tomoa, Ita Futaba, Fujii Kokoro, Jakob Schubert, Jessy Pilz, Seo Chaehyun, Brooke Raboutou, Sean Bailey and Natalia Grossman are registered. Janja Garnbret and Adam Ondra are not.

Climbing Escalade Canada is sending a small team of young climbers; Riley Galloway (B), Madison Fischer (B), Guy McNamee (B/L), Kindar McNamee (L), Zach Richardson (B) and Ethan Pitcher (S). Canada does not have any Paraclimbing athletes competing.
