H.H. Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, spotted wearing the remarkable LEDERER CIC 39 InVerto Titanium.

A particularly discerning choice from one of the most intellectually rigorous corners of contemporary independent watchmaking.

With the InVerto, Bernhard Lederer quite literally turns the traditional watch inside out. The architecture normally hidden beneath the dial is brought to the foreground, revealing the principles at the heart of his pursuit of chronometry: two independent gear trains, twin constant-force remontoirs and his Dual Detent Escapement.

The latter draws upon a much older horological lineage — the pursuit of direct impulse and reduced interference with the oscillator that defined some of history’s finest precision chronometers — reinterpreted here through Lederer’s distinctly contemporary approach.

Presented in a 39 mm titanium case, the CIC 39 InVerto is therefore more than an exercise in mechanical spectacle. It is a watch that makes an idea visible: chronometry itself becomes the dial.

An exceptional piece of independent watchmaking on the wrist of the Crown Prince of Ajman.

Rolex’s latest patents are more interesting when read together than in isolation.

One focuses on the mechanics behind a Big Date display. Another explores a more compact annual calendar architecture with instantaneous jumps. A more recent filing addresses the visual side of the equation, reducing the gap between two adjacent display discs to the point where they can appear almost as one.

Different patents, different technical problems — but all moving within the same territory: how a more advanced Rolex calendar could work, jump and ultimately look on the wrist.

There is no evidence that these solutions will end up in the same watch, nor that a new Rolex calendar is imminent. But the sequence of filings suggests a broader and increasingly sophisticated field of research.

We went through the patents to understand what Rolex is actually protecting — and what these different inventions may tell us when considered together.

At the turn of the 20th century, Cartier helped transform the wristwatch from a practical object into an expression of style.

Under Louis Cartier, the Maison created some of the most enduring designs in watchmaking: the Santos in 1904, the Tonneau in 1906, the Tortue in 1912 — and, in 1917, the Tank.

Its radical geometry is believed to have been inspired by the silhouette of the first Renault military tanks seen from above: the brancards recalling the tracks, the case forming the vehicle’s body. A prototype was famously presented to General John J. Pershing, commander of the American Expeditionary Forces in Europe.

More than a century later, the Cartier Tank Normale remains perhaps the purest expression of that original idea.

Roman numerals, chemin de fer minute track, blued hands and an architecture that has barely needed to change. A design worn across generations by artists, politicians, movie stars and style icons — including Jackie Kennedy.

From the Normale came an extraordinary lineage: Cintrée, Chinoise, à Guichets, Basculante, Asymétrique and many others.

Few watches have influenced the way we think about elegance quite like the Tank.

Not simply a Cartier icon. A design icon.

On September 11, 2001, time acquired a different meaning.

At 8:49 AM, three minutes after the first impact, Thomas Canavan’s inexpensive quartz watch stopped as he fought his way out of the North Tower.

At 9:37 AM, a clock inside the US Navy Command Center recorded the moment Flight 77 struck the Pentagon.

At 9:59 AM, 24-year-old-old EMT Yamel Josefina Merino was helping evacuees when the South Tower collapsed.

At 10:03 AM, United Airlines Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville after its passengers fought back. Todd Be’s Rolex was later recovered from the wreckage, its date still reading 11.

At 10:28 AM, the North Tower fell.

Only 102 minutes had passed.

These objects are not significant because of the names on their dials, nor because of their monetary value. They matter because they belonged to someone. They witnessed courage, sacrifice, loss and survival.

This is not a story about watches.
It is a story about the people who wore them.

Watches usually remind us that time moves forward. These remind us that memory must endure.

September 11, 2001. Never forget.

A tribute that goes far beyond the car.

At Monza, Sebastian Vettel paid an emotional tribute to Michael Schumacher by getting behind the wheel of the legendary Ferrari F2002 — one of the most dominant Formula 1 cars ever created.

But there was another detail that made the moment even more special.

On Vettel’s wrist was an OMEGA Speedmaster Automatic “Michael Schumacher” ref. 3517.30.00, a limited edition of 4,000 pieces created in honour of the seven-time World Champion.

With its distinctive silver chequered-flag dial and Schumacher’s signature engraved on the caseback, the Speedmaster was much more than a watch for the occasion.

The F2002. Monza. The Speedmaster.
Every detail was a tribute to Michael Schumacher.

F.P. Journe unveils a unique chronograph for the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

For the first time, François-Paul Journe has created what the manufacture describes as a “conventional chronograph”, powered by the hand-wound Calibre 1518 and offering an 80 ± 2-hour power reserve.

The unique piece features a 42 mm two-tone case combining platinum and 18K 6N gold, paired with a striking burgundy lacquered dial. Its distinctive numerals are inspired by oracle bone script, the earliest known form of Chinese writing, while grey sapphire counters reveal glimpses of the mechanics beneath.

Created in support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, this one-of-a-kind F.P. Journe will be auctioned during the Voyage Extraordinaire Gala Dinner in Singapore on November 25, 2026.

A fascinating new interpretation of the chronograph by François-Paul Journe — and a true pièce unique

Rolex has created four one-of-a-kind Cosmograph Daytonas — and they are all going up for auction.

Named Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, each watch combines a different precious metal with natural-stone dials, diamonds and coloured gemstones, interpreting the four seasons through Rolex’s most iconic chronograph.

Created in collaboration with Roger Federer and Leonardo DiCaprio, the four unique pieces will be auctioned by Phillips in London on September 28.

All proceeds will benefit the Roger Federer Foundation and Re:wild, supporting children’s education and the protection of the natural world.

Four seasons. Four unique Daytonas. One exceptional cause.
