In 1959, a group of experienced hikers set out across the Ural Mountains in the Soviet Union. They were well prepared, familiar with the terrain, and had planned the route carefully.
One of the final photographs recovered from their camera shows them moving through heavy snow, their faces partially obscured by wind and cold. Nothing in the image appears unusual. It looks like any other moment during the journey.
Days later, their tent was found cut open from the inside. The group had fled into the freezing night without proper clothing. Some were found in the snow, others deeper in the forest. Several had severe internal injuries, but no clear signs of external trauma.
The exact sequence of events has never been fully explained.
