PRESS STATEMENT
'Student Group in Support of Speaker Koon Established in East Africa'
(Kigali, Rwanda, Sun., Jan. 18, 2026): An international student organization in support of Hon. Dr. Richard Nagbe Koon's political ideology has been established in East Africa.
Headquartered in the Rwandan capital of Kigali, the organization runs chapters in Uganda and Kenya, and aspires to extend to other countries soon.
The group, named and styled East Africa Student Movement for Richard Nagbe Koon, was established on October 4, 2025 in Kigali, Rwanda by a group of visionary student leaders pursuing studies in East African universities.
The establishment of this movement was primarily motivated by Speaker Koon's support to education through provision of scholarships as evidenced by his recent scholarships offer for Liberian students to study in the Philippines and Indonesia up to doctorate level.
Since assuming the Speakership, Dr. Koon has played a critical role in stabilizing the House of Representatives, strengthening national unity, and upholding the principle of democratic governance. His leadership has been marked by constructive dialogue, inclusiveness, and a clear focus on reforms that directly impact the lives of Liberians. Notably, his attention to key national priorities such as education, infrastructural development, and regional parliamentary cooperation, including efforts toward the establishment of the Mano River Union Parliament, reflects his strong commitment to national and regional progress.
The Movement stands firmly in solidarity with Speaker Koon as he continues to lead with vision, courage, and integrity. His work does not only strengthen Liberia’s democratic institutions, but also serves as an inspiration to reform-minded movements and leaders across the African continent.
To steer the affairs of the group until elections are held, an intern leadership was instituted by consensus, endorsing Wilson T. Zeah as Chairman, while Tarnue Jallah becomes Secretary General. Emmanuel Blojay Gardyou,
Mr. Philip Yarngo, G. Uriah Summerville, Jr., and
Princess Gifty Richard won nominations to serve as Vice Chair for Operations, Vice Chair for Administration, Chapter Coordinator, and Treasurer, respectively.
The leadership of the East Africa Student Movement for Richard Nagbe Koon, assures Liberians of its support to Liberia particularly in the area to research and governance, whilst supporting the Speaker's legislative agenda.
