The festival was created to respond to a fast-growing film audience and a much-needed film connection through African countries, filmmakers, the African diaspora and international media producers Official page of Mashariki African Film festival, which is Rwandan film festival that represents the country in East African Film Network (EAFN). It is in this framework that Mashariki is organi

zing training to all Rwandan filmmakers in order to mitigate the skills gaps in film industry. The festival will be taking place every year and will be a liaison of all East African film festivals in Rwanda, the 2nd Edition Comes again in Kigali from 6 to 12 March, 2016 under the Theme "Cinema Unites Africa"

The second edition will offer a retrospective on Mauritanian film director Abderrahmane Sissako’s masterpieces. The Mauritanian director will be present to give a master class on “The impact of African cinema on its culture”. The festival will also provide master classes and workshops (in Collaboration with Maisha Film Lab, a Screenwriting Workshop will be conducted) for Inspiring Filmmakers.
