Due to the ongoing scandal and allegations involving the Discaya couple, their companies are now facing the immediate termination of all active government contracts.
In addition, they are expected to be permanently blacklisted from participating as official contractors in any future government projects. This decision also includes the cancellation of multi-billion peso flood control initiatives that were previously awarded to their firms.
If carried out, these actions would represent a decisive move by authorities to uphold transparency, restore public trust, and enforce accountability in public works and infrastructure programs. Officials stress that these measures are necessary to ensure that only qualified, reputable, and ethical contractors are entrusted with projects funded by taxpayers’ money.
The scandal began after a high-profile interview featuring the Discaya couple, conducted by veteran journalists Julius Babao and Korina Sanchez, went viral on social media. During the interview, the couple openly showcased their extravagant lifestyle, including a collection of over four dozen luxury cars, high-end properties, and other lavish possessions.
While initially intended to highlight their success and philanthropic efforts, the display sparked outrage among the public, who questioned how contractors handling multi-billion peso government projects could afford such excessive wealth. This controversy eventually triggered further scrutiny and investigations into their business dealings, leading to allegations of corruption and misuse of public funds.
The rest, as they say, was history. The controversy intensified when President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. announced the list of top recipients of the government’s Flood Control Projects, projects which, despite costing billions of pesos, had little to no visible impact during the most recent rainy season.
Reports of severe flooding remained widespread, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of these initiatives and whether the funds allocated were properly utilized.
