Al-Ghamamah Mosque (Masjid Al-Musalla), located southwest of Al-Masjid An-Nabawi in Madinah, is a sacred place where the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ performed Eid prayers, Salat al-Istisqa (prayer for rain), and the funeral prayer in absentia for the Negus (King of Abyssinia).
This was the last location where the Prophet ﷺ led Eid prayer. The mosque earned its name “Al-Ghamamah” (meaning “cloud”) because a cloud is said to have shaded the Prophet ﷺ during the rain prayer.
Originally built during the Umayyad rule by Caliph Umar ibn Abdul Aziz, it has been restored multiple times under Saudi leadership.
