حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِکٌ عَنْ نَافِعٍ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَی مَثْنَی فَإِذَا خَشِيَ أَحَدُکُمْ الصُّبْحَ صَلَّی رَکْعَةً وَاحِدَةً تُوتِرُ لَهُ مَا قَدْ صَلَّی وَعَنْ نَافِعٍ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ کَانَ يُسَلِّمُ بَيْنَ الرَّکْعَةِ وَالرَّکْعَتَيْنِ فِي الْوِتْرِ حَتَّی يَأْمُرَ بِبَعْضِ حَاجَتِهِ

ترجمہ:
ہم سے عبداللہ بن یوسف نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہمیں امام مالک (رح) نے نافع اور عبداللہ ابن دینار سے خبر دی اور انہیں عبداللہ بن عمر (رض) نے کہ ایک شخص نے نبی کریم ﷺ سے رات میں نماز کے متعلق معلوم کیا تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ رات کی نماز دو دو رکعت ہے پھر جب کوئی صبح ہوجانے سے ڈرے تو ایک رکعت پڑھ لے، وہ اس کی ساری نماز کو طاق بنا دے گی۔ اور اسی سند کے ساتھ نافع سے روایت ہے کہ عبداللہ بن عمر (رض) وتر کی جب تین رکعتیں پڑھتے تو دو رکعت پڑھ کر سلام پھیرتے یہاں تک کہ ضرورت سے بات بھی کرتے۔

Translation:
Narrated Ibn Umar (RA): Once a person asked Allahs Apostle ﷺ about the night prayer. Allahs Apostle ﷺ replied, "The night prayer is offered as two Rakat followed by two Rakat and so on and if anyone is afraid of the approaching dawn (Fajr prayer) he should pray one Raka and this will be a Witr for all the Rakat which he has prayed before." Nafi told that Abdullah bin Umar used to say Taslim between (the first) two Rakat and (the third) odd one in the Witr prayer, when he wanted to attend to a certain matter (during that interval between the Rakat).
