Cardinal Matteo Zuppi stood inside the ruins of a church once destroyed by the N@zis and began doing something painfully simple: reading names.
Not giving a political speech.
Not debating history.
Not arguing strategy.
Just names.
The names of children k!ll*d in the G@za w@r.
It did not take 7 minutes.
It took 7 hours.
One by one, every name was spoken aloud. More than 12,000 Palestinian children and 16 Israeli children were named. The list was 469 pages long. Just reading it took an entire afternoon and evening.
And that is when numbers stop being numbers.
Because politicians can argue over statistics. Governments can debate reports. News channels can reduce human suffering to headlines. But when every child’s name is read aloud, you are forced to remember that every number had a face, a family, a dream, and a life.
The location made it even more powerful: the ruins of a church connected to a N@zi m@ss@cre where civilians, including children, were k!ll*d.
For 7 hours, the world was reminded of one truth:
Every child had a name.
