Solomon Islands midfielder Don Keana has signed with Fiji club Rewa FC from Solomon Kings FC and is expected to join the squad ahead of the 2026 BiC Fiji FACT tournament and the second half of the domestic season.

Rewa says the Solomon Islands international was recruited after impressing club coaches with his performances and is expected to play a key role in the teamโ€™s preparations for both local competitions and the OFC Champions League.

A Japanese physiotherapist, Yuki Nishikawa, has joined the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport under the JICA Volunteer Programme and will spend the next two years supporting athlete rehabilitation, injury prevention and high-performance programmes.

His attachment is expected to strengthen sports medicine and athlete welfare services while helping build local capacity through knowledge sharing and technical support.

Telecommunications services in Auki were disrupted for more than a day after a road contractor damaged an Our Telekom fiber-optic cable linking Malaita to the submarine cable network, affecting calls, messaging and internet access across the town.

Services were restored on June 5 after repair work by engineers, but the outage highlighted the communityโ€™s growing reliance on digital communication and raised concerns about future disruptions during ongoing road rehabilitation works.

Auki Community High School has regained access to running water after negotiating a reconnection agreement with Solomon Water and beginning repayments on an outstanding bill of about $33,000 that dates back to 2011.

The restoration of the service has allowed normal school operations to resume, with the remaining debt expected to be paid through installments supported by parents and guardians.

The Honiara Central Magistrateโ€™s Court has scheduled a trial from August 31 to September 11 for three people accused of breaking into a warehouse in Kukum and stealing 22 bags of beche-de-mer and $100,000 in cash, with the total value of the stolen items estimated at $2 million.

The accused have pleaded not guilty, while the prosecution says it will call 10 witnesses during the trial as bail and remand arrangements remain in place.

A 17-year-old who was remanded for attempting to set fire to his grandmotherโ€™s unoccupied house after becoming upset over not receiving a share of a slaughtered pig has been released after serving most of his five-month prison sentence.

The court noted that the damage caused was valued at $1,470, while the offenderโ€™s family had already compensated the victim with a customary settlement package worth $11,000 and reconciled with her.

A New Era for Ghaobata School

Ghaobata Community High School in North Guadalcanal constituency, has entered a new chapter nearly 20 years after its establishment. The school now have a climate-smart solar-powered water system and borehole, delivering clean water and modern sanitation facilities to its students.

The transformation was made possible through a joint initiative: UNICEF partnered with the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification (MMERE), and the Guadalcanal Provincial Government.
Funding support came from KOICA, expanding the WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) project.

The new borehole and solar-powered system were officially handed over during World Water Day celebrations this year, symbolizing a commitment to sustainable development and student well-being.๐ŸŽฅ
