NATIONAL DIVINE MERCY CONGRESS ENDS | The National Divine Mercy Congress was successfully held from 16-21 December at Tangarare Parish in the Archdiocese of Honiara under the theme “Living the Divine Mercy Message of Faith, Hope, and Love.” This congress, held every two years, brought together faithful from all three dioceses of the Solomon Islands. More than 1,000 participants attended the week-long spiritual gathering. During the congress, formation talks were delivered, Holy Masses were celebrated, Eucharistic Adoration was held, testimonies and sharing sessions took place, and many faithful received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Fr Mark Misiwasi said, “The congress was a moment of deep spiritual renewal for our people. It has helped revive devotion to Divine Mercy in families, parishes, and communities. The strong participation and prayerful atmosphere show that people are seeking God’s mercy and healing, especially in these challenging times.” He also thanked the host parish, clergy, religious leaders, and volunteers whose dedication made the congress a success. Formation sessions were led by Fr Lawrence Samani, Fr James Ereai, Fr Manscent Kavaliliu, Fr Peter Chele, Fr Mark Misiwasi, Fr John Galvin, and Fr Paul Cheka, along with other church leaders who supported the program. The congress was further enriched by youth participation. Tangarare youth presented a meaningful enactment of the life of St Faustina and led the Stations of the Cross, which began at Tulahi, the site where the first missionaries planted the Gospel in the Solomon Islands. Participants said the congress brought a sense of peace, hope, and love to all. “It is a blessing to be part of this event and to renew our faith together,” said one attendee. The next National Divine Mercy Congress will be hosted by the Diocese of Auki at Takwa Parish in 2027.
