No Functioning Government in South Sudan Since March 2025
Since the house arrest of First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar in March 2025, along with the detention of other senior SPLM/A-IO members, the national Council of Ministers has not held a single meeting not even once. To make matters worse, the national legislature remains closed, with no signs of reopening anytime soon.
In plain truth, South Sudan has been without a functioning government for nearly five months. No cabinet decisions. No legislative debates. No national policies. What we have instead are individual leaders launching military operations while the rest of the top leadership remains silent.
Meanwhile, ordinary citizens are left to suffer insecurity is rising, hunger is deepening, and the economy continues to collapse.
When will this end? When will our leaders put aside their power struggles and focus on the people who put their trust in them?
South Sudan deserves better.
